EL FASHAR, SUDAN (BNO NEWS) -- The United Nations (UN) on Wednesday reported that two peacekeepers have been missing in the Sudanese state of North Darfur.

The two members of the UN-African Union peacekeeping mission (UNAMID) were declared missing in the town of Kabkabiya, located approximately 140 kilometers west of El Fasher, the capital of North Darfur state on Monday.

UNAMID said the incident was being investigated by both the Mission and the Government of the Sudan, but few details were immediately available.

Darfur has been wracked with conflict since 2003, pitting Government forces and allied militiamen against rebel groups. Millions of civilians have been either internally displaced or forced to seek refuge in neighboring countries.
