BANGKOK: -- The government held nationwide events this weekend to mark the first anniversary of the administration and to promote its populist schemes such as the first-car scheme, first-house scheme, farmers' credit and loans provided by state-run banks. The Nation's Wattana Khamchu asked visitors to the event at the Rajamangala National Stadium in Bangkok what they thought.

The food sold at the event is cheaper than in the market. I bought duck eggs, vegetable oil and sugar. The Bank for Agriculture and Agricultural Cooperatives provided me with transportation here. I will come again [today] so I can buy ingredients for my food products.

I like the first-car scheme through which the government offers tax deductions. The government is very good. It creates opportunities for people with low or middle incomes. I came here to see the prices of pick-up trucks. I would like to have one, as they are versatile. Anyway, I have not decided yet, as it is still expensive.

I like the first-house scheme. My husband has a car-body repair business. Nowadays he has to rent the land for the garage. We don't have our own house. If we had a house on our own land, we could ensure our family's stability. I have picked up some documents here, but I have to discuss our plans with my husband.

I am impressed with the agricultural credit and loans policy, as a I am a farmer. But I like all the schemes. I am interested in the first-house scheme. I think the government's achievements in the first year should give a good start to people with low incomes. I want to see more of the good schemes.

Since I retired, I've rarely seen such good policies as these. I am very happy today. I'd like to promote the government's policies to other people. I agree with the first-car scheme. It is very good for government officials who have low incomes. They can drive to work. However, I am worried that this scheme will cause too many cars to be on the road - there could be more accidents too. I'd like the government to tell police to beef up measures to prevent this.

Wonder how these loans and schemes fit with His Majesty's well thought out and globally lauded concept of sustainable economy.

These schemes seem to play to peoples 'wants' and creates desire as opposed to sustainable economy which plays to peoples 'needs' and promotes happiness.

As my old gran once told me, when you have children remember this one rule, give em what they need, not what they want' - timeless wisdom

Not much upset that the charter changes didn't happen.

Perhaps they forgot they voted them, or didn't understand them, or didn't care or ...........

Last day of Government Meets People for Quality of Life campaign continues to draw visitors

PRACHUAP KHIRI KHAN, 26 August 2012 (NNT) – More and more visitors are flocking into the “Government Meets People for Quality of Life” event held at Prachuap Khiri Khan’s city hall. The event is being held simultaneously across the country from August 25 to 26, with the aim of disseminating information regarding the government’s work over the past year. Residents of Prachuap Khiri Khan province showed their interest by continually visiting the event, where they asked for information and suggestions regarding government policies.

Among the exhibited stalls, the Government Housing Bank booth draws great pubic interest. The Government Housing Bank has a number of campaigns running, such as the First House campaign, which allows first-time home buyers to raise an interest-free loan of not more than 1 million THB, over three years.

Other booths attracting much attention are those run by the Bank for Agriculture and Agricultural Cooperatives and car dealers, which are offering the 3-year farm-debt suspension project and the First Car Buyers campaign respectively. Visitors are also offered a wide range of Blue Flag products at low prices, as well as OTOP goods which represent top-range products of Prachuap Khiri Khan province.

The feedback from the event was generally positive. Most visitors commented that the event helped increase convenience for citizens, and legal acts could be taken right away if they were accompanied with sufficient documents.
