Foreign Pilot Approval Raises Concerns for Thai Aviation
Of course, I agree with you, and I guess many competent Thai pilots are up in the sky doing a good job, contrary to some AN members. TBH my reply was only intended to make the other poster happy to end the meaningless argument. -

Tourism Authority of Thailand targets Niche Tourism Boom in 2025
File photo courtesy: Wikipedia In a strategic move to capitalise on the high-end travel market, the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) is banking on four niche sectors—wellness, luxury experiences, sports tourism, and honeymoons—for a prosperous 2025. Propelled by a global shift towards personalised and luxurious travel experiences, the Thai tourism agency is crafting exclusive events and experiences to cater to an affluent clientele with substantial spending power. Chiravadee Khunsub, deputy governor for tourism products and business at the TAT, highlighted the increasing interest in high-value travel experiences, a trend mirrored by global figures. Reports from Allied Market Research place the collective potential of these markets at a staggering 31 billion baht globally back in 2019, with projections surging to an impressive 390 billion baht by 2027. Closer to home, luxury tourism in Thailand amassed between 60 and 70 billion baht in 2023, with expectations of an annual growth rate of 8-10%, signifying a robust upward trajectory for this sector. Recent data suggests that tourists drawn to these four markets predominantly visited five key destinations: Bangkok, Phuket, Pattaya, Krabi, and Samui. Their average expenditure per person per trip was estimated at 77,693 baht, translating to approximately 6,171 baht per day. Thailand’s diverse landscapes, coupled with its top-tier luxury accommodations and renowned hospitality, make it an appealing proposition for such discerning travellers. Reflecting this demand, establishments graded four stars or higher have already increased their room rates by over 20-30%, noted Chiravadee. Beyond accommodation, the TAT is eager to elevate Thailand's international profile by hosting grand events—from concerts and sports events to fashion shows—in collaboration with luxury operators across the nation. Thailand is already reaping the benefits of its niche marketing strategy. A recent trail running event, Hoka Chiang Mai Thailand by UTMB, drew over 7,000 visitors, contributing 800 million baht to the local economy, and 70% of those attendees were international visitors. Similarly, the Amazing Thailand Marathon Bangkok 2024 featured Kenyan marathon legend Eliud Kipchoge, pulling in over 33,000 participants and generating approximately 660 million baht. In aiming for the future, TAT intends to spotlight signature Thai festivities such as Chinese New Year, Songkran, and Loy Krathong, boosting their international appeal. Sustainability is at the forefront of this initiative, with the agency committed to promoting eco-friendly practices like the 'Krabi Model,' which incorporates green events and skills training for tourism services, catering to an ever-growing environmentally-conscious demographic. Through these initiatives, Thailand is set on a path not only to rebound from past tourism slumps but to position itself as a premier destination for travellers seeking opulence and unique experiences, all while advocating for sustainability and cultural appreciation, reported Bangkok Post. -- 2024-12-11 -

Is there anything good about getting old?
Lived here since 20s and now in 30s, life for sure gets better from 30s as you simply usually found your way in life more, have some more skills, better paid wages, you don't rush life anymore as if 30 is the end of the world etc. To then speak about what life would be after 65, I'd already see it as a bonus to be honest. 1/4 males does not even make it to this age to start with, let alone in full functioning and good health in general for the 3/4 that is left by then. Meanwhile they tell you to work until 70 years old nowadays, assuming this would be my life (luckily it is not), that means I have 25% chance to be death before retire age and 50% chance to be in not tip-top health condition. What is there to even worry about, I mean you basically spend and do little the older you get from that point. Life should be lived before that age, from that age it is simply bonus years + cool in case you also have kids and grand kids. What surprises me daily is how many people toss away most of their good years only to try and secure something that they might never even witness. Same if a second great depression now started, basically anyone who now worked for 20-40 years, loses up to 75% of their wealth instantly. For people under 45 today the chances of seeing the full pension is even only 50%, funds are going bankrupt weekly. -

non O based on marriage visa extension
There is nothing to be lost in making an application. There could be issues that arise that cannot be addressed in the timeframe. I do not have children but do not really see that they would be required for a marriage based extension. The grey area is income, I have only done income from outside the country and that required a 12 month statement showing monthly income so I would imagine something similar supported by evidence from employer. Bank documents need to be obtained day of going to immigration. Other sticking points can be KR2 and witnesses. The KR 2 should be recent and can be obtained at any amphur and does not take very long. You should check with immigration regarding witnesses. I am in Chonburi and all we need do is take copies of ID and housebook for 2 people but you may be required to have them go in person. You need to bear in mind the extension is not granted immediately, there is a 30 day waiting period during which you will most likely have a home visit which will require both you and your wife, and possibly the children. If you cannot get the extension in the timeframe you should ask immigration if it is possible to convert visa exempt to Non O using Thai income, I do not see why not but others will say it cannot be done. That may determine Plan B, you may well have to get another SE Non O visa outside the country. -
