JD Vance barred from English pub as staff mutinies over visit
Pretty funny. They might be woke types, but good on them after the rubbish he was spouting about the UK. I think he was visiting the Cotswolds. That area is stunning, not far from my neck of the woods, and a shame it’s recently been discovered by the masses. Kind of like hordes of belligerent Russians piling into Maya Bay, albeit sans beach and tropicalness. -

Report Thailand Shuts 1,000 Cannabis Shops in Sweeping Crackdown
Massive miscalculation. Thailand is a country that relies heavily on tourism. The relaxed cannabis laws has been some sort of magnet for criminals and unsavoury scumm bags to come and visit. These visitors have ruined Thailands repuation and have turned away the masses. If you do legalise it, then you better make sure you enforce the laws to protect those who don't want to be around it. Instead Thailand has been unable to enforce the laws they had around it. So you would have scenarios you could be in a restaurant, coffee shop, on a beach, by the pool and some lousy tourists would light up a joint. This tarnishes Thailands reputation. In places like California the punishments for public smoking of a joint are very tough. In Thailand they are unable to enforce the laws. The sheer volume of smuggling out of Thailand is beyond the pale now. Coming back from Thailand and you just know the level of scrutinity these flights are now under. Look at the warnings Singapore gives it visitors when visiting Thailand. It's trashed the reputation. Furthermore whilst if you do smoke cannabis in moderation you are chilled, but excessive smoking, withdrawel symptoms, mixing with alcohol does see some really crappy behaviour we are seeing around Thailand at the moment. -

U.S. alcohol consumption hits near-100 year low
The latest results from Gallup’s annual Consumption Habits survey show a record low 54% Say They Consume Alcohol. From 1997 to 2023, at least 60% of Americans reported drinking alcohol. The figure fell to 62% in 2023 and to 58% in 2024, before reaching 54% today. -

Accident Two Dead in Pre-Dawn Pattaya Crash
Pictures from responders At around 05:00 on 17 August, police and rescue workers were called to a serious road accident near the U-turn point by Pattaya South Highway Police Station. On arrival, emergency responders found a pick-up truck had collided with a motorcycle, throwing the victims onto the road. The pickup had then crashed into a food vendor’s stall outside a premises. A woman was pronounced dead at the scene, while a man was discovered in critical condition with no pulse. Rescue workers immediately performed CPR in an attempt to revive him. Bangkok Hospital Pattaya dispatched an advanced life-support ambulance to assist in transferring the injured man. Despite urgent medical efforts, both victims were later confirmed dead. Authorities are investigating the cause of the crash, with the pickup driver taken to the police station for tests and questioning. Adapted by Asean Now 2025-08-17
