Thanks Roo. I will try to call them.

Jose,

After too much bad things happening around us, it is time to leave. The number of furniture is not too much anymore as most of it was stolen recently. But that is not the reason to leave.

I have been to Koh Pha-Ngan and it looks very nice. But soon it will be the same as Samui i think. I am off to the mainland. Will stay in Bangkok for a while, and will visit Rayong, Krabi, Prachuap Khirikhan and Chumphon to do some research for a better place to live. Other important reason to leave is the lack of good schools. My children will be of school going age soon. Better find a good spot now than that we have to do it at the last moment.

All in all it was a pleasant stay until the hordes (also the not so good people) arrived after the tsunami. Leaving has nothing to do with the latest rape and murder cases. The decision was made after last years high season.

We will be alright, and can go visit Samui as a tourist again. It is still nice for a few days holiday.

I'm sorry to hear about this, Khun Jean.

Can you tell us a little about what happened to you in Samui?

There are many things. Seperate they can be ignored (well some), everything together is too much.

1) Small girl maybe 5-6 years old get killed when she crossed the street by a car that was driving very fast, did not even stop and raced on. People getting angry that they have to wait for me and another farang who were carrying her body to the side of the road. Still get angry when i think about it. The total lack of respect for a live. 'Mai pen rai'

2) My wife getting disturbed by drunken farang asking questions like "how much", "can you come with me to my hotel". It is already strange they do it, it is even stranger when you are walking with your wife and children!!. 'Mai pen rai'

3) When your child is sick because he eat some fertilizer that some gardener left in the garden. 'mai pen rai'. Have to go to the hospital and the taxi ask 4 times the normal rate because she!! saw my wife with a sick baby. 'mai pen rai'

4) When someone is cleaning the beach in front of your house means scraping everything together and burn it so that you sit in a toxic smoke because all the plastic. 'Mai pen rai'. After it is burned the whole beach is black, all my clothes 'that were hanging to dry' ca be throw away. The curtains are ruined, the bed sheets smell after washing. 'Mai pen rai'. If it happens 4 times in a year. "mai pen rai maak maak'

5) When the guys who bring water bottles to your house just decide to skip your house. 'mai pen rai'

6) When farang who like to see the beach in front of my house just park there car or motercycle right in your garden, which is clearly seperated from the rest with flowers and trees. Well before there where flowers. 'mai pen rai'

7) When your neighbour is fighting with his parttime girlfriend. 'mai pen rai'

8) When you other neighbour starts to play loud music at 4 o'clock in the morning. 'mai pen rai'

9) When your neighbour moves you are happy, only to find out the new one is even worse. 'mai pen rai'

10) ... 1000) 'Mai pen rai'

1001) Too much 'mai pen rai'. I am moving...

But like others say, i am negative, while i am Mr. Positive himself.

But if the idea of normal is farang walking around drunk 24 hours a day, then i am not normal.

Of course it happens on other places too. But on Samui it is too much concentrated that you can not escape it. Other areas in Thailand don't have that problem. I am probably not suited to live on an island (with mafia and drunken tourists).

Hello Jean.

Reading your list of problems, I would do the same as you..... move on.

Please give me your impressions of Krabi & Chumphon after having a look.

They are on my short list too. :o

Thanks,

udon
