Garmin Zumo 550 Dead

Featured Replies

From one day to the other day my Garmin Zumo does not power on. It worked very reliable the day before. I used it 2 years on my scooter around Bangkok suburbs.

I tried all tips recommended from Garmin and other websides. However it stays dead like a rock.

Anyone know if there is an authorized Garmin dealer in Bangkok who can check it, repair or send it to Garmin USA?

If I google it tells me many shops who sell GPS systems.

I don't know if Morris from Eagle GPS can do anything for you but he can certainly advise you what to do and where to go for help.

Thanks, but they are in Chiang Mai. I called them, and they gave me a Bangkok Phone number, which is the ESRI dealer at Sathorn Rd.

But maybe they can help.

ESRI is the dealer and I bought my Zumo 550 there about 3.5 years ago. Mine also went completely dead one time and I took it in and had it going again the same day. Can't remember exactly what it was, but I seem to remember it being the battery. Just call them first and schedule a time and day to take it in and you should be back on track in no time.

I had to google

First step in the process is starting to collect as many TLA's as you can. When you are familiar with all of them, you can consider advancing in this field.smile.png

GPS can be real good for idiots like me. Other people don't need it.

Would love to buy a Zumo 660 but at Thb 24,000+, it's really hard to justify......

Went there today. They checked it for free. Its the motherboard. Need to send to Taiwan. Cost 7.500 baht. That is more what I paid for my used Zumo at eBay. I'm going to look for a cheaper replacement.

In the meantime, I miss it. It guided me aways very reliable to any place, if entering the correct coordinates....

My 750 Nuvi was recalled for a supposed battery defect. It was sent to Taiwan and it took a LONG time to make the trip back and forth. There was no charge. Since I depend on the GPS, I bought another one. I now have two Nuvi units.

Both my old units have features that the new models lack, such as being campatible with Audible books and having a 3.5 mm audio jack. I think Garmin has gone backwards. Both also have a built in FM transmitter which works great locally but is not much good for traveling. Too much interference.
