Floods?

Featured Replies

Just received the following email originally from the US Embassy Bangkok:

"Subject: Warden Message: Possible Heavy Rains and Flash Floods

"The Thai meteorological department announced that an active monsoon trough

will remain across northern and northeastern Thailand from September 1

through September 6, 2012. Residents in these areas of Thailand are advised

to watch out for heavy rains and flash flooding.

"Chiang Mai Consulate wardens are requested to alert members residing in

their respective districts concerning this message."

It's been about one year since the last floods. The river does not look high now, though.

I hope everyone in CM will stay dry.... Take care folks!

Am thinking of opening a book on how many posts we can have before some dummy hijacks the thread with the usual inane comment "but Yingluck promised.......".

Eh ? Eh

'Flash floods' don't necessarily mean that the river will break its banks and flood the city. 'Chiang Mai' also probably refers to the province which includes large areas of mountains and valleys. The river's doing fine at the moment:

No rain in sight at the moment:

Common occurence in most countries .If there is a chance of heavy rain, which may cause flooding, authorities issue an early warning. If it happens then they can rightly say "well we did warn you" People just need to be vigilant.

I noticed today the area along the river by Duke's now has concrete flood-protection barriers installed.

I noticed that too last night. I don't recall them being there last year. But they did have them on the other side of the bridge from the bridge to the Wawee? coffee shop last year.

Looking at the weather maps, and the calendar, we're in the clear for this year.

(For major flooding originating from the river; a heavy thundershower can still produce some very localized minor flooding of a couple sois.)
