Kul Lcct Transfer Hall / Transit Hub Facilities?

Recommended Posts

Just snagged a $520 return ticket BAK - OOL for November 2012.

I havent been through KUL for about 4 years. Last time there was NO transfer / transit area.

I have approx. 3 hours layover and was wondering if anyone has been thru there recently and could comment on available facilities (if any)

Food / Drink / Smoking room etc etc.

Also, any positive / negative comments about the transfer area would be appretiated.

Thanks UbonOz.

The transfer hall will definately make it easier than before.

Stamped in and then out again through immigration.

KL Lcct has a Mc Donalds and a couple of shops. Limited seating areas and not too much going on really, its a long way from the Int airport too.

(Applicable only for a maximum stop-over of 6-hours in Malaysia.

QUICK TRANSIT

Check-in at the transfer hall to your connecting flight

BAGGAGE CHECK-THRU

Bags are automatically tagged to your final destination.

I find the LCCT terminal to be pretty bad. It's crowded, dirty, cramped, & noisy. Food & beverage choices are limited, with no "nice" places.

I did, however, use the lounge facility once, and that made a longer layover bearable. I can't remember the prices, but it's a pay-for-use lounge open to anyone, not an airline specific lounge. It was NOT an overly nice lounge compared to other airports, but at least it was quiet & comfortable. Some basic food & beverages were provided, and best of all, you can take a shower. They provide a towel, a hair dryer, and maybe some shampoo. That shower was great after a long flight. I feel like the prices might have been high in relation to what you get, but for me, it was completely worth it just to escape from the chaos of the LCCT.

If I'm remembering correctly, there seemed to be one lounge upstairs right before the boarding pass check (before the escalators), and one lounge downstairs by the departure gates. I can't remember if both have the same facilities - the showers might have only been located upstairs, but the pay you buy is good for either loungs.

You'll easily survive a 3 hour layover, especially if you have to collect your baggage, go thru immigration, and re-checkin. If you're eligible for Air Asia's "Fly Thru" service, you'll have more time but won't be able to utilize any service outside the transfer lounge.

Once you go thru immigration, there's a McD's, a coffee chain, a chicken and maybe pizza chain, and just outside the terminal there's a food court serving excellent local food at very reasonable prices. Otherwise, the rest of the terminal is a hot, crowded dump.

And that is exactly why I am asking about facilities inside the transit / transfer area.

My flight is a Fly-Thru flight with NO requirement to go through Immigration. Just stuck in the Transit area.

I agree with your other comment about the rest of the terminalwink.png Its on par with Brunei International airports transfer "lounge"whistling.gif

Ok, finally went through KUL LCCT transfer hall just over a week ago.

For general interest if you are using Airasia fly through service.

Get off your plane and follow the signs / walkway to the stairs that have signage to immigration. Don't go up the stairs, turn left into the transfer hall checking area. Here someone will check your passport and ticket and let you know what gate your next flight leaves from. You then enter the transfer hall to wait.

In the transfer hall there are the following: Ground floor,,, Money exchange X 2. Coffee and pastries shop. General store similar to 7/11 and pharmacy. Duty free shop. Souvenir shop similar to OTOP. A bar and lounge. No idea what beers are sold there as I didn't indulge. 2 small food outlets selling wraps / sandwiches and cold drinks. A couple of other specialty shops that I didn't take any interest in.

Upstairs there is a Dunkin donuts outlet that also has sandwiches and rolls. The smoking room is located next to it. A couple more specialty shops and that's it.

Toilets both upstairs and down. A fair amount of seating spread out over the lower level but as 'planes come in it can get crowded. Best idea is to grab a Dunkin donuts coffee and use there tables and chairs upstairs away from the masses. A lot quieter as well.

For a 2 or 3 hour layover the transfer hall is adequate. You can have a feed and beer or coffee a couple of smokes and be on your way. However, I would not like to be stuck there for any great length of time.

For the fainthearted, hold your nose when using the toilets, and that's not water on the floor in the cubicleswhistling.gif
