catweazle
Nice! If it's not the "Farangs", blame the Burmese... If one wants to know who the real drug dealers are in any Country all over the world, then start readIng non-mAinstream books and websites. The whole war on drugs is just a big pile of horse$#it... MahaYellow
Is the ex-police station re-sale price? 3.3 million amphetamine tablets were seized in Bangkok. The haul, with a street value of $350,000 0.10 USD per pill? 3 baht per pill? Surely some mistake? Better to stick to rice smuggling. Rice is much more cheaper than the pill, and so it would be as profitable to them. 10 kg of rice contain approximately 498960 grains of rice, and at an average price of 400 Bahts for 10 kg. each grain of rice cost a mere 0.080166747 satang. hellodolly
First post - 3.3m worth 10.9m Bt Second post - 3.2m worth 1000m Bt Looks like 100000 have slipped through the net but will they be sold at 3bt or 312bt? Neither price being remotely realistic! The big surprise is neither one of the articles came from the Nation. It would be nice if Thailand did some thing to help the people addicted to these products. Cut the demand and the supply will drop except for the stuff bound for other countries.
hellodolly
The situation in Myanmar is what would have occurred in Thailand's border provinces had there not been an intervention during the Thaksin administration. There is a narco state. The only way to stop it is to take it out. Myanmar either cannot or will not. Thailand, at the time, took out their narco terrorists and saved the affected regions from becoming what we now see in Myanmar. Well you are right if Thaksin haden't intervened the border provinces would have been manufacturing it. Just go and kill a couple of thousand people and don't worry about their guilt or innocence. All Thaksin did was drive the manufactures out of the country. He did not even put a dent in the drug use problem. They now buy from another country. I seriously doubt that we will ever see the government (no matter who is in power) address the drug problem here in Thailand. How many of these pills are for sale here in Thailand and how many just passing through.
Travelman868
I think the biggest problem is YaBa is relatively cheap. I'm told the street price is around 250 baht per tablet.
scotbeve
i'm guessing local DEMAND is to blame, not the burmese. +1 They both use the drug - it's equally popular amongst laborers....
daboyz1
In the "other" paper, Mr. ear medicine is blaming Vietnam as well. Someone might want to give him a geography lesson.

sunshine51
Thailand always blames other nations for internal problems it cannot solve. Cut the demand and the supply will drop. And...it's better to cut the demand by humane methods such as counseling, drug rehab programs, in school education programs and the like than with a weapon. Well that saves asking the question as to what the going rate is for a pill. Now if we multiple 3.3 million by 250 that should give you the actual street value of this haul

Absolutely agree Thailand has no program for rehabilitating drug addicts. Just places for them to go and get food and rested up to go back to do it ll over again. I am not a fan of giving first grader's a pad but they are going to give some out any how. So why not a program on them about the result's of alcohol and drug abuse? Could be a short film showing the down side of abusing these drugs.

simple1
What happened to the billions of cold tablets illegally imported into Thailand from China and South Korea some months ago? The hospitals that were selling millions of cold tablets to use for extracting pseudoephedrine to manufacture YaBa to "drug gangs"? Saw the post saying under Thaksin, narco terrorists were taken out in the border areas, is this correct? The manufacture, distribution of and transnational shipping of YaBa/ICE via Thailand will only be reduced when corrupt Thai government enforcement agencies are cleaned up. At the street level what country has successfully countered demand for illegal drugs? Edited September 7, 2012 by simple1

At the street level what country has successfully countered demand for illegal drugs? Portugal They have had some modest success. They have decrimalized a lot of things and as a result the use of them has dropped. There are a lot of users who are not addict's and when you take way part of the life style they stop using. Even for many addicts the life style is a part of their addiction. For needle users there is a lot of them who are strongly attracxted by the needle. That is some thing they have not been able to do any thing about yet. The main point is they have given up on traditional methods and thought out side the box. They no longer spend so much money on policing and incarceration and in addition the crimes related to getting drugs have gone down. Les Breaking and entries less shoplifting etc.
