Stolen Motorbike In Chiang Mai

Recommended Posts

I need help immediately, I was borrowing my friend's motorbike and I believe it was stolen last night. It is a black CBR 150 that has no side-view mirrors. It has a sticker from Zoey's on the back (between the grab-rails). It is the newer style CBR and I still have the key for it. The license plate's number is 554, I'm not sure what the letters are but it is a Chiang Mai plate. Please help because it is my friend's bike and it is my responsibility to get it back.

Also, I tried calling the Tourist Police on 1155 but it does not go through and the Thai Police at 191 do not speak much english. What do i do?

Keep trying on the TP hotline as it can be a bit hit and miss. If still no luck I would make a visit in person to their office.

Also you could visit the big police station in the city and file a report. I'm sure they'll understand enough English to assist.

do you know where the big police station in Chiang Mai is?

Close to the corner of Ratchadamnoen Road (Sunday walking street) and Jhaban Road? Two or three storey white place with parking out the front. You should ascertain the full plate number if possible and get down there now!

does my friend and/or his dad need to come with me? police may assume i was the thief of the bike

Where the bike was stolen ? Ask local people which is the nearest police station only there you can file your complaint. Or post your position when your bike was stolen, I will guide you.

my friend's bike was stolen close to Rimping RuamChoke, just beside Thanawan 3. Close to Nakorn Payap International School

If it's your friends bike he should be with you imo. Take his dad as well if you feel intimidated by attending a police station. Can't hurt.

Then you will have to go Sansai police station , it is on the inner road of Sansai , just go the the straight from ruamchok to Chiangrai intersection following the ring road, turn left and you will come over a market on your left hand side and a smaller road going towards Sansai follow that , around 4-5 Kim's from there , police station will come on your right side. But cops there hardly speak English , try to get some local who can explain you to them

Once again pls confirm if Tanawan 3 comes in Sansai jurisdiction or Chang phueak ,

it is near ruam choke, in between Rimping and Nakorn Payap International School. the approximate address is ชม. 3029, Mueang Chiang Mai, Chiang Mai, Thailand

What do you mean? i will be going with my dad and taking Bike papers with me, but i dunno if the owner will be going with me.

Why would you have the motorbike’s registration documents? Has the owner gone away somewhere? Is he/she aware of the incident?

Does the bike have insurance coverage for theft? If so, has the insurance company been informed?

Has anyone inquired whether there were any witnesses as to the bike being stolen?

Does your driving license include motorbikes? Otherwise any insurance coverage maybe noll and void, plus the police could prosecute you.

In the case of a stolen vehicle, the owner must report the matter directly to the police, as the person using it at the time is only a witness and why are you taking your Dad?

Will we hear from our, tyler387 again with the answers?

As long as the bike owner has 1st class insurance, that includes coverage for theft, it is not such a bother.

But he (I'm assuming a he) needs to make the claim to the insurance company.

The OP is not the owner, and was borrowing the bike.

He really has nothing to do with this insurance issue.

If the owner is say, out of the country, and the OP wants to go to the Tourist Police and file a stolen vehicle report, that is fine.

Obviously they would rather hear from the actual owner, not the OP. But probably they will file the report anyway.

The Tourist Police will interview the complainant (the OP), have him write out in English the circumstances of the theft, and then they will re-do the report in Thai, and forward to the relevant Thai Police sub-station.

There is no need for the OP to rush off to the Sansai police station; the Tourist Police will suffice.

Just go to the main office of the Tourist Police (just up the road from Pun Pun Guesthouse in a sort of strip mall locale) and they will sort it out.

Calm down, it's not the end of the world; worst things happen than stolen bikes....;)

No, but my son and my nephew are policemen in Chiang Mai and they can ask some very searching questions, because my son takes after his dad and not hoodwinked easily.

As for the OP, I have no idea? And perhaps he will keep us updated?

The tourist police station is now a little bit further than the zoo,up hill to Doi suthep temple on the right site of the road.

offer a 5-10k reward to the cops if they find the bike. They already have a list of suspects.

If you take Chang Puak road and cross the outer ring road, the shops along that road are known for stolen parts. A girl i was dating found her stolen Honda Dream here before it got parted out.

Doi suthep temple on the right site

Would that site happen to be on a big mountain ?

If no first class insurance, I'd do this.

Tyler..... Sorry to hear about the theft. Please pass along where it happened, and do get the police involved.

It is unlikely that you will ever see it again because bikes are stolen either to part out or re-sell, and not for joy rides. CBR-150's are still popular for parts or to make into vendor carts in mountainous areas. Here is what it might be doing next week. My CBR-150 key worked in the red one as the ignition key had been jammed with a blade when it was stolen. We bought some some bamboo rice (Khao Lam) from the vendor and I tried my key as we were talking about CBR-150's.
