Wu Bangguo, the chairman of the Standing Committee of China’s National People’s Congress, arrived in Naypyidaw on Wednesday for separate meetings with President Thein Sein and the speakers of both houses of Parliament, according to a report by China’s Xinhua news agency. In a statement, the top Chinese legislator said that the two countries have enjoyed strong relations since diplomatic ties were established in 1950, and that a comprehensive strategic partnership forged in 2011 had opened a new chapter in the relationship. Wu arrived in Burma from Iran, and will travel next to Sri Lanka and Fiji.
