Non-Imm B Without Work Permit

Featured Replies

I have a 3 month visa permission (non-immigrant B to stay stamp but have not got the work permit. Does anyone know if the extention to stay is tied to my getting a work permit or is it possible to stay for the 3 months without getting the work permit?

Thanks

An extension would require full paperwork/work permit. You can stay the full 90 days allowed by the initial visa entry however.

Immigration can extend the non-B visa if you or your agent provide some paperwork. I had my non-B extended to almost 5 month because immigration was waiting for some paperwork from company (this was done by agent) and when they returned my passport two pages were full of "Visa extended until .... - application under consideration"

Is it a 3-month Non-Imm B visa? Or a 1-year Non-Imm B visa which has been stamped with 90 days?

If the former I know nothing about it - I didn't even know it was an option.

If the latter, then (and this was 3-4 years ago and I've no idea if the laws have changed) I was on one of those for 2 years with no problems. I got the visa from the UK, did a trip to Poipet every 3 months and one just before the visa was about to expire, which got me a total of 15 months per visa, no questions asked.

After the first one I went back to the UK and got another 1-year Non-Imm B with a letter from the same company and stayed here with no probs for almost a year, at which point I applied for and received my WP.

Like I said, my experience was from a few years back and maybe the laws have changed. At that time I was told you could get away with 2 visas before they started asking you (or the company) "When are you actually gonna make your mind up to employ this guy....?"

Single entry non immigrant visas are more commonly issued than multiple entry visas.

You will not get a multiple entry B visa at any nearby consulate without a work permit and company documents.

Ah ok... Thanks for clarifying. So is a single-entry B visa would be referred to as a 90-day B visa? How does it work with re-entry permits and single-entry B visas now?

I think you are referring to an extension of stay based upon working not a B visa.

Visas do not require re-entry permits unless somebody wants to make a short trip to save the remaining days of the entry they got from the visa.

Thanks for that. I actually don't want the extra 9 months or the work permit. I do want to keep the 90 days and exit and start the process again with a new passport and company.

Thanks again.

My previous post was in reply to jimmybkk's post.

You can stay for the entire 90 days. If you want to leave and return before those 90 days end you can get a re-entry permit for the remaining time you have on that entry but it will not give you any additional time.
