Plodprasop: Flood unlikely, unless country face 10 storms in a month

BANGKOK, 18 September 2012 (NNT) - Chairman of the Water and Flood Management Committee Plodprasop Suraswadi has said that overall precipitation this year is lower than last year’s, affirming that flood will not happen unless the country is battered by at least 10 storms in a month's time.

According to Mr Plodprasop, not only is the volume of water predicted for this year is less than last year’s, the water management is also more effective this year, promising there would be no repeat of last year’s flood devastation.

It would take at least ten storms battering the country in a month's time for the nation to see the flood of last year's magnitude; but that, he said, is very unlikely.

The Water and Flood Management Committee is holding a meeting every day, and will announce the operation progress at 10 a.m; it will also report on the current water situation at 3 p.m.of each day.

Trying to give a certain prediction about weather seems a pretty silly thing to do, so that's perhaps why he didn't. "10 storms", (which means exactly what?) Surely the amount of rainfall is the relevant factor, however unpredictable. "Very unlikely". But possible, or not, depending on the weather really.

I was just stuck in that storm for an hour. It was heavy and the drains weren't coping well.

You just need 9 more in the next 29 days. You say "unlikely". I say "probable".

But we all know you have left plenty of escape clauses in your press release. By being absolute on how many storms, yet vague on water volume per storm or overall water volume, your escape pod is safe.

I'm so glad it has been scientifically determined that it would take 10 more storms (nice round number ain't it...kinda like a person would pull out of you know where) to cause flooding equal to last year's flooding. By the way, it's raining right now over here in western Bangkok...does that count as one of the storms? Maybe, one time he right...Accuwether frog say storm and rain for the rest of the month...But we will see, here in Lamlukka, the soil is full, if it raining the next 2 weeks, and the water from North come down, I think some of us will get wet feet again...

The number will keep decreasing on each news comment (nothing to actually due to the number of real storms). When it's about 3 "storms" it will be time to move the furniture upstairs and head north again. Completely clueless - apart from making a fast book.

Let's just average the two estimates; 13.5 storms is the correct WAG. What is a half of a storm? Let the scientific minds of Thailand figure that one out...it should keep them busy until the rainy season is over.
