My daughter wants to come over to stay with me she is 32. I have a retirement visa , my question is how can she stay with me all the time . She has no family in Australia , and I am her only family .

I have read all about visa runs and all other types of visas and really it just condfuses me . can the members give me some advice.I have read about learning thai visa but that is so expensive

Regards

She cannot piggy back your visa as she is too old/

Therefore the only ways forward are tourist visas, where she will have to go over a land border every so many days, or an Education Visa, The only other alternative is her getting a job, but the only jobs that are really open are teaching jobs.

Beano is not right.

My mate's dad is retired here and he (the 40-something son) gets a multi-entry O visa (valid for 15 months with border runs) from the UK on the grounds of a family visit.

I think you two are talking about two different things.

Beano is correct she cannot get an extension of stay as a dependent of the OP, but she can get a multiple non-O visa based on visiting her father at some Thai consulates.

For the OP's daughter it will probably be working or studying.

Before giving up hope for a multiple non-entry visa for the purpose of frequent visits to her father in Thailand she could enquire from the consular section of the Thai embassy and one ore two honorary consulates, ie explaining that because she has no living relatives in Australia she would like to spend as much time with her father who lives in Thailand and as the current rules for extensions of stay (Royal Thai Police Order No. 777/2551) do not qualify her for a one-year extension she would like to apply for a non-immigrant visa category O, for which she believes to be qualified under the conditions shown on the website of Thailand's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which lists "to stay with the family" as one of the situations for which this type of visa is intended.

I would consider these to be suitable documents to accompany the enquiry and subsequently the visa application as evidence of the relationship:

  • birth certificate (shows the applicant's and the father's names)
  • copy of father's passport, ie ID page, non-O visa and arrival stamp last used to enter Thailand, last extension of stay for retirement (shows that the father lives in Thailand for the reason of retirement)
  • letter from the father inviting her to go and live with him as often and as long as she can (shows that the father welcomes her in Thailand)
