Assuming you are a Foreign National you should not send out your passport to anyone. You are obliged to show it or produce it when asked. Why would you do this?

Monch, I can't think of a reason why you would want to send your passport out of Thailand. Would you like to explain?

Not recommended, probably not legal, although it is not stated as such in your passport. As posted, you do not let your passport out of your hands. Someone is in trouble or maybe going to be.

It should not be a problem to have the passport sent to you from Thailand.

The only time a complication could arise is if you were sending if out to get a new visa for Thailand and was in Thailand.

It is not that uncommon to send passports out of the country. One example is to get a visa for another country. There are many countries that do not have embassies or consulates here.

The OP might need to send his passport out of the country to apply for a visa. Nobody is randomly asked to produce a passport in Thailand - I believe that occasionally happens in Beijing but not at a Bangkok skytrain station or a shopping mall. Since when is Thailand an authoritarian state? That would be racial profiling - do you know how many Chinese tourists there are in Bangkok who could just "blend in" with the crowd and avoid such profiling simply because they look the same as Chinese-Thais? There would be uproar if westerners, Africans etc. were asked to produce ID on a random basis like you suggested. In any case, my example is simply an exaggeration to show you how ridiculous that would be. OP don't worry, what this poster has said doesn't happen.

If the OP wants, he can keep a scanned copy of the passport to show when necessary (e.g. when opening a bank account). This would also work IF the OP were ever asked but the chance of that is close to zero. The Thais being the friendly "mai pen rai" people they are, the OP could also play their game by giving a proper excuse, which would be accepted and the authorities would kindly reply: "mai pen rai!" In any case, wouldn't he/she also be without their passport if they applied for a visa in Thailand?

And then there are some (notably the Chinese Embassy and possibly the other two Chinese consulates) that currently don't process visa applications (at least not tourist applications) for foreign nationals not resident in Thailand. This is another reason why the OP may need to send their passport out of the country. DHL or Fedex are best and of course, make sure that your permission to stay in Thailand doesn't expire in the meantime.

Absolute garbage. Sure you need to protect your passport but it's very common to send your passport out of the country, mainly for the purposes of applying for a visa. Maybe the OP even has dual citizenship, meaning they can keep the passport they used to enter Thailand with them, while another one is sent abroad for visa processing.

There is nothing illegal about sending a passport out of the country. It's not only 100% LEGAL but it's also a necessity in many cases. Many embassies and consulates recommend this approach for processing visa applications for nationals of some countries. Nobody in their right mind would spend $2000 to travel to Europe or Australia etc. just for a visa when they don't have to go in person anyway. DHL and Fedex have a good track record and wouldn't lose your package. In the unlikely event they did, your embassy or consulate could cancel that passport and you would apply for a new one, which would cost say $100-300, rather than the $2000 for the round-trip or return air ticket I have mentioned. Not to mention that courier companies also offer insurance and you could claim your losses with them in such an event.

Of course. Except if you have more than one passport (like many of us do) and you are obviously sending the passport you DIDN'T use to enter Thailand for the other visa. You then wait to receive the second passport, travel with both passports out of the country and then travel back, preferably by air to Thailand and re-enter using the new passport with the new visa.

There won't be any problems - but where is your "work place"? You said you live in Bangkok, so I don't see what problems you are anticipating. Maybe you should have the package sent to your home address if you think it would be safer. Anyway, just use a reliable courier service, preferably insure the package and don't let your current visa or permission to stay expire in the meantime. I'm guessing you only have one nationality based on your post, but in any case you will need to use the same passport (or a new passport replacing the old one) to exit Thailand.
