How To Obtain Work Permit In Thailand

Featured Replies

Hi there,

I am a Danish Pilot, currently looking into the possibility of working in Thailand as a Commercial Pilot. One of the requirements to be able to apply for a job with a Thai airline, is that you are able to obtain a Work Permit legally.

I am a Danish citizen, 31 years old, currently employed as a flying instructor. I have a bachelor degree in architecture. Furthermore, I have roots in Thailand. I dont know if it makes a difference, but my Grandmother is Thai, and I have a large part of my family in Thailand, who would be able to provide me with both an adress, and financial guarantee.

Let me know if someone has gone through a similar process, or if anyone has an insight in this special matter. I know that there are plenty foreign pilots flying for Thai International, so there has to be a way.

Kind Regards, Claes

First thing is to get an actual job-offer. You'll need various letters and documents from the would-be employer to get a non-immegrant visa and a work-permit. Unless you're blacklisted by official Thailand, you shouldn't worry wether you legally can obtain a work-permit --- its rather a question wether the would-be employer fulfill the requirements for a company to obtain a work-permit for you. (Can't imagine THAI should have a problem with that).

For more information you could try go to www.thaivisa.com and click the menu with respect to non-immigrant visa and workpermit - the info there will give you a quite good start off.

I believe a work permit is only available if you are flying international routes.

Plenty of foreign pilots flying IN Thailand, but none for Thai International. Once you have a job offer the employing company will handle your Work Permit. But that begs another question.. WHY would you want to fly in Thailand... it is about the worst place to fly!! IMHO

I really love Thailand, and would like to have the chance to live there, close to the relatives i rarely see. I dont see myself staying there forever, but living in Scotland, so a few years in the sun would do me well. I would also like to do some challenging flying, i.e turboprops to the Islands etc., before I go onto the larger jets. If anybody knows how the jobsituation is out there, I would like to hear from you. About foreign pilots in Thai...I thought Thai took on some SAS pilots a few years back, but I am not sure...

Ignore the negatively above, I work for Thai and the flying is very easy here (relative to Europe and Eurocontrol)
