TARINKOT, AFGHANISTAN (BNO NEWS) -- A roadside bomb attack killed at least five members of a family in southern Afghanistan, local authorities said Friday.

The family was traveling in their vehicle and on route to the central region of Afghanistan's Uruzgan Province, when they struck a roadside bomb in the district of Herawod.

Provincial governor spokesman Abdullah Hemat confirmed the blast, detailing that among the dead were two women, two girls and a one man, Khaama Press reported. All of the victims were civilians and belonged to the same family.

No group claimed responsibility of the blast, although Taliban forces and insurgent groups are known to use roadside bombs against Afghan and coalition security forces. However, it is not uncommon for civilians to fall victims of these devices.

Last month, a similar incident killed at least six members of a family in Helmand, also in the southern region of the country.
