I just recharged my Dtac account with 50 baht, since I only need it for a backup phone I don't use so often. Today's the 25th of September and when I recharged, it told me the credit would expire on the 28th of September.

3 Days? Really?

What's up with that?

Does Dtac credit just always expire on the 28th, or is it that they only give 3 days when you charge up with such a low amount, or something else?

Certainly doesn't make me too "Ha-pee!"

It's dependent on your tariff. But you can add 30 days validity for 2 baht. Give customer service a call and they'll do it for you. no limit as to how much you can add, up to a year. So, 12 baht for six months. Some tariffs take it back to a year's validity for any topup. Just not yours. You can change your tariff, but your calls may cost more.

I think you get four (4) days for a top-up of 60 baht, so 3 days at 50 baht seems in line with that.

You can purchase additional validity, at 2 baht/30 days so a max. of 360 days for 24 baht. http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/topic/337888-extending-the-validity-of-your-dtac-sim-card/

Happy have a SIM which never expires, but you have to use it at least once every 1,000 hours (~ 42 days) http://www.happy.co.th/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=89&Itemid=37〈=en You can change to this promotion for a small fee.

Many people rave about the TrueMove InterSIM which gives 365 days validity for a single 10 baht top-up.

Most service providers here offer longer-term SIMs/plans, and/or options to extend validity. Some/all have 90 day usage requirements which may or may not be enforced.

To top up your usage time just dial the following code:

*113*xxx# Where xxx is the number of days you want to extend. So for another 6 months: *113*180# and press call.

Cost 2B / 30days.

I tried that last one, dialing the 113 number and opting for 30 days. It's all in Thai, but when I did a credit check it seemed to still say it would expire on the 28th of September, if I'm reading the Thai symbols for the month correctly.

Will persevere with a native Thai speaking friend.

Cheers

Won't work as you've missed a bit.

It's actually *113*180*9# imgPhone.gif

Will deduct 12 baht and add 180 days.

In addition, change your language to English: *101*9# imgPhone.gif

Thanks JJ,

Switched to English.

I went for 60 days first off and it said you could only request 30, 90 or 180. Ok. Then I went for 30 and it said you need to have activated the SIM for at least 90 days or have used 100 baht in credit before you could get the extension period. How frustrating.

Guess I'll make an international call and burn up that 100 baht so I can be eligible.

Thanks for the assistance guys.

Oh my god. So I blew 120 baht on a long distance call and recharged yet again only to be told I was ineligible since I hadn't used 100 baht. When I dialled to check the balance, it said I'd only used 27 baht, though my balance reflected the 120 baht charge.

Maybe it takes a day to register or something, or you have to use 100 baht on local calls?

What a gigantic pain in the backside.

Told you to call Customer Services. For the sake of 3 baht... :)

Many thanks for this . Very useful info, especially the extensions as I use both True and DTAC. DTAC seems more trouble than its worth.

In general it takes a few minutes, to even a few hours, for balances to be accurately reflected.

Or just change to the Kong Kra Pun promotion? http://www.happy.co.th/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=89&Itemid=37&lang=en

The call rate and SMS rate are pretty good: 0.99 baht/min or 0.99 Baht/SMS.

As others have recommended maybe just ring 1678 and ask for some help?

HAPPY DTAC are fine. I use their SIMs without issue. I prefer to use them than any of the others; but since there isn't a level playing field in Thailand, you often have to use the product of the moment.

Ok I called them and they said that while overseas calls do count towards the 100 baht usage, changes in balance may not be reflected for up to 2 days.

Seems like a pretty useless system, but whatever.

You might be happier with another SIM, provider or promotion?

The One-2-Call Tesco SIM has a good rate, 60 days validity with a top-up as low as 50 baht, and even a bonus. http://www.ais.co.th/12call/en/simcard-Tescolotus.html

As mentioned, many rave about the TrueMove InterSIM, but not sure the ravers use it all that much? A 10 baht top-up gives 365 days validity. http://www.truemove.com/EN/Inter-SIM-Prepay.rails

I have a True move H internet sim, from which I lost the number and which has 0 balance but a validity of another 2 months.

How can I find out it's number to charge it?

Maybe put it in a phone, and try *833#send or 99send? Dial 1331?

I am not familiar with TrueMove H's validity extension scenarios. TrueMove H is of course different from TrueMove, and the recommended InterSIM.

Put SIM in phone, turn phone on, enter *833# and then press SEND/CALL (the green phone icon), Or try 99 SEND/CALL. These commands should result in a reply service message containing your telephone number. Or dial 1331 and they can tell you what your number is. I guess, if you can't manage that, maybe stop by a True shop and ask for help?

Thank you for that info, it all seems very straightforward, when you can read it. Cheers
