Going To Uk After Settlement Granted?

Featured Replies

My wifes visa was issued in august and we are leaving for england on sunday,i was looking for any tips with documents to take whilst travelling and when settled in UK

Thanks

She should carry her TB certificate and the documents used in her visa application in her hand baggage in case she is questioned bu immigration on arrival in the UK; though this is unlikely.

Her birth certificate may be useful, and your marriage certificate almost certainly will be; especially if her passport is still in her maiden name.

If she has any formal Thai educational qualifications, then these certificates may help her obtain work in the UK.

All document in Thai should be translated into English, and it will be cheaper to have this done in Thailand than in the UK. For UK purposes a certificate on the translation by the agency confirming it's accuracy and giving the name, address and contact details of the agency and the person who did the translation is sufficient. However, if you wish to use your marriage certificate for a Schenegn visa to visit Europe then you will need to have the translation certified by the MFA in Bangkok; although a certificate by the Thai embassy in London should suffice instead.

When she applies for Indefinite Leave to Remain she will need to provide documents to show that you have been living together; ideally addressed to you both jointly. So when you arrive put your council tax and utility bills into joint names, register her with a GP and a dentist, get her a NI number etc.

As she will be applying for ILR after October 2013, she will need to pass the LitUK test and obtain level B1 of the CEFR in English speaking and listening, so get her enrolled on an English course ASAP, if necessary.

See Completing application form SET(M) and the relevant links from there.

All the best for your future in the UK.
