Map Update For Garmin - Tsm V.2012.30

Featured Replies

New map update for Garmin - "Thailand Street Map" (TSM) has been updated to version 2012.30. The new units already come with the latest map version. To update your map contact your distributor.

Improvements:

  • Update Thailand road data.
  • Update 820,000 points of interest (POIs) for navigation.
  • Introduce Nostra Guide data including categories such as shopping, attractions, and restaurant.
  • Update Junction Views in Bangkok and Chiang Mai (for compatible devices only).
  • Add warning sound and message when approaching traffic light.
  • Add new 3-D buildings in Bangkok and terrain views for up-country (for compatible devices only).
  • Update telephone numbers (navigable).
  • Support traffic report* (for compatible devices only).
  • Update Lane Info for Bangkok, Greater Bangkok, and major cities in Thailand.
  • Support automatic Thai/English map switching for dual language map (for compatible devices only).
  • Improve text-to-speech or TTS (for compatible devices only).
  • Support intersections search (for compatible devices only).
  • Support parking lots search (for compatible devices only).

Memory requirements for TSM v.2012.30:

Thai language map = 217 MB

English language map = 199 MB

Dual map (Thai and English) = 304 MB

Currenty living in USA and moving soon to Thailand. We have a Garmin nüvi 3590LMT.

This is running the default USA ENG based Garmin OS with lifetime map updates for USA. The online Garmin store here offers a map product for "Southeast Asia" that covers many area countries, one of them being Thailand, The problem being that the coverage map seems to only a subset of the area of the Kingdom, Since I do not care about the road in other Asian countries I really would like a map that focuses on Thailand and has comprehensive coverage of Thailand. I also note from postings here that there is a "Thailand Street Map v.12.1 SDmicro card" which appears to offer better coverage and also staters it is for the Thai language OS (does not mention the model GPS devices it is compatible with).

Does anyone have experience or recommendations to get your non-Thai based Garmin GPS devices running in Thailand? Does this requre installing the Thai language OS? And if so is this reversable (return to USA ENG OS) and will I loose lifetime map updates?

Thanks for the council and advise.....

The US based OS does not equal the Thai based OS, they are not directly convertible and cannot be interchanged. The maps do work OK, however, here are slight differences such as the junction view, excreta, .available on the Thai OS system. The Thai OS system, ESRI (TSM) v12.1, is undoubtedly the best map available and obtainable from Thailand retail sources.

excreta! LOL!!!

excreta! LOL!!!

HoHoHo, etcetera or etc.

I modded a Garmin nuvi 1300 from the U.S. to work here it was fairly straight-forward, and it works well. I'm using TSM 12.01, and a Thai friend "found" the relevant Thai files (keyboard, voice, POIs, etc.) for me. There are some shops in MBK, and perhaps elsewhere, that can do this for you for a moderate fee. Any mods are changeable/reversible, lifetime map option should remain in place, but I can't verify this - I haven't taken the unit back as I just use my Android phone which works really, really well now with Jellybean, Google Maps with Nav. and my free 2G connection.

I use a garmin Nuvi 1390,originally purchased in Canada. It was USA and Canada maps built-in. I use the rotweiler maps of Thailand, copied onto a 2 gb microsd, and it works well.

if they are using map data from nostra it should be pretty good!

If you only intend to use the English language ESRI map, you won't have any problem. You can either copy it to the internal memory or to a microSD card and it won't affect your USA map or updates at all. Just select/deselect whichever map you're using from the UI.

It is only if you need Thai language input that it gets more complicated.

the only thing you can not use on a non-Thai Garmin is the 3d view, junction view works perfect. I bought a 3770 in Thailand and can not use the 3d view on europe maps.....

If your device can handle dual maps, choose this one, if not, choose the english or thai single file

the noeman forum would be a good starting point for searching..... ;)

If you buy a Thai Garmin Sat Nav, they give you a Free 1 Year Map Update.

I guess this is TSM v. 13.0

Mapset: Thailand StreetMap 2012.30 NT [Dual] ALL

Thailand V13.0 NT in Dual

I think they finally brought the numbering system in line with other products.

Hello! I am new to Bangkok, I have a garmin nuvi 3790 that I brought from the USA. I would like to buy a micro SD card with Thailand maps for my GPS. I went to the MBK shopping mall yesterday and the BIG C today, and anywhere I asked, nobody knew where I could buy this. Can anyone help?. Of course, it does not help that I don't speak read or write thai. My maps on my ipad have too many instructions and names in thai, and I have not been able to change settings on it to English, so I assume my only option is the Garmin nuvi 3790.

Any ideas? Where I could buy this?

Thank you for any info.

Henry
