Best looking girl from my village comes home to visit her mother now and then. Mother lives in a nice new house, girl stays next door in her little villa style house, she arrives in a brand new convertible Merc. Mir noy to a BKK banker, no farang.

Not uncommon round here for those with money to keep a young Lao girl, it's the Thai way, we are just new on the scene and seem to think it's all farang aimed. Jim

It's a tough old world and you have to look after yourself because no else is going to look after you. A man married to a Thai woman is better off than if he is married to a western woman in his home country. I have never heard of a Thai woman being able to tap her husband's home country assets.

I have posted my rules for surviving in Thailand a number of times and maybe it is time to post them again.

1 - Never spend more than you can afford to walk away from.

2 - Never be worth more dead than alive.

3 - Keep a low profile and mind your own business.

I find it incredible that a man would spend his life savings on property that he can't own. The fifty fifty divorce settlements are fiction. Yes, the court may indeed award you 50 percent but the divorce court is a civil court and has no power of enforcement. You will certainly die before you get a single baht.

I love my wife and consider myself very lucky to have a good wife but one never knows for sure. I can tell you that if she were to throw me out tomorrow, that I wouldn't miss any meals and I would still have a vehicle to drive and a roof over my head. I have not put myself in a situation that I have to worry about my financial future. I would be devastated if I lost my wife but NOT financially devastated.

Some play safe, others take a different approach, The play safe is the wise way. I on the other hand have had the devil may care attitude, all my life. No doubt why I am always broke, but life is for living. If you want to climb a mountain you may as well go for the biggest one. Tried and lost on many a time, when your life pass before your eye at it's end ,at least I will seen an interesting one.

1. Thai girls are wonderful.

2. I hear bad stories about Thai girls but mine is different, I trust her totally and she never worked in a bar.

3. Thai girls are evil cheats that only want my money, avoid them all.

4. Keep a firm grip on your finances and enjoy your life.

Depending on how foolish you are, you progress through the stages, some guys never get past stage 2.
