Do you know about culture shock?

The final stage of culture shock stage is acceptance and assimilation.

This is when you finally accept the local culture and realize that you have become part of the dominant society.

Have you assimilated?

I think now that I have.

When you need to ask all those questions (in other topics as well), I'm not too sure you have been assimilated yet.

As for me, no I do not think I ever will be.

Of course I love it here, but I will always feel like a foreigner in many ways.

The final stage is reverse culture shock, when, after months or perhaps years of handing out your life savings in an attempt to assimilate and loosing the battle with the self denial that for a time had you believing you had assimilated you find yourself sitting in front of a very concerned looking housing officer back home who is struggling to find you a local government bed sit that is within affordability of the welfare payments you've just applied for.

While sitting there you are fighting back the urge to wai.
