September 30, 201213 yr It is easier to get a work permit if I have a new baby with a Thai partner Edited September 30, 201213 yr by givenall
September 30, 201213 yr Easy answer - No, you have the same rights as everyone else when getting a work permit. Oh and if you are not married you are not considered to be the father by Thai Law. Edited September 30, 201213 yr by beano2274
September 30, 201213 yr Oh and if you are not married you are not considered to be the father by Thai Law. BullShit. You are the father if you are listed on the birth certificate as such.

No, you are not the legal father unless you are married or have gone through courts to be the legal father. The mother can state any man to be the father on the birth certificate, it does mean nothing that you sign it. If the mother is already married the husband he is considered the legal father, else it's unknown. Read more in the excellent thread how to be recognized as a legal father.

September 30, 201213 yr Oh and if you are not married you are not considered to be the father by Thai Law. BullShit. You are the father if you are listed on the birth certificate as such. I was married at the time when if a Thai Female married a foreigner, she could no longer own property. So, we obviously did not get married back then, but had a son together. The laws eventually changed, but we just never got around to getting married. She was killed in an accident 5 years ago up in Chiang Mai and it was then I found out even though I was listed on the birth certificate and my son had an American passport along with his Thai passport that I was not the legal father with any parental rights. All the parental/custodian rights when straight to my wife's parents. That's just the way it is here and there's no "Bullshit" about it. Edited September 30, 201213 yr by hedonist44
October 1, 201213 yr Heddonist44, you could have petitioned the court to become the legal father, and still can. With a DNA test there would not be much doubt and you would get full parental rights.
October 1, 201213 yr Back to the OP's question: No, it doesn't make a difference. Only regarding immigration does it make a difference, as when you become the legal father of the child you only need to show an income of 40,000 a month (or 400,000 in the bank).

Yes you're correct and I plan on doing that this year hopefully. With me working full time in BKK and my son living at the house and going to school in Chiang Mai, it's been hard to get things coordinated. Thanks the the post

Should be nothing more then a formality, especially with the child confirming you are the dad.
