Greetings,

Does anyone know where tongue is? My partner said his family have land in tongue in north thailand where we can build a house but I can't find it anywhere on any maps.

Thanks

You'll get lots of help with that attitude. A tongue is located in your mouth, what town or village you are asking about is probably spelled differently. Try google and see what you get.

If you can post the name of the place in Thai, someone here could translate it for you.

If that isn't possible, ask your partner what province (jangwat).

I think you take the wrong conclusion here. Ask your partner to spell it, write it in Thai or western script and post it here again.

..and from the Thai script (เทิง), sounds nothing like Tongue, OP.. lol!..How did you come up with "Tongue"?! laugh.png Or, is it how your partner is pronouncing it??

Apologies, my Thai is shocking, he says it differently to tongue but that is what it sounds like to me!

Thoeng is indeed about an hour drive from Chiang Rai town. That means you need to be finding out about Chiang Rai as most of your medical needs, shopping, western food and dining will be found there. It is a long drive to Mae Sai for immigration issues so you should also know that on the first Saturday of each month they set up office at Central Plaza, the Chiang Rai shopping mall, for our convenience in dealing with many visa issues.

He just mentioned building a house. Surely he's not foolish enough to actually go live there.

He did mention elsewhere they are moving to live in Thailand full-time in a few months but that he has no experience outside of Bangkok and Pattaya. After spending a little time in Thoeng he may have a rethink about where to live. Love, however, is a powerful mind altering drug.wink.png

Sounds remarkably similar with a French accent giggle.gif

Most likely Thoeng - SE of Chiang Rai

Believe you've got it. thumbsup.gif

Thoeng map and here

Thank you, I showed my Pakpoom the map and he said it is correct smile.png

Good on you, Proud Derek, for recognizing and thanking the two helpful posters. And for not telling the others to go pound sand.

Thanks amexpat, I guess as a newbie I should expect a bit of ribbing and have suffered a lot worse in my time! There were some excellent replies with the most pleasing coming from villagefarang but, looking at his picture, he plays for my team so that was to be expected LOL

Ouch…you have relegated me to the wrong team here.shock1.gif I was just trying to be tactful and respectful. Perhaps your gaydar is a little off or I need a new picture.laugh.png

Chiang Rai has it's very own naughty boy bar.

Up the bar road from Tanon Jet Yot, last but one soy on the right (opposite WangCome Hotel), good coffee/smoothie bar next door as well.

Please

Don't be tempted to build on family land in a small rural village, that rarely works out well, but a little place in/near CR itself would be most excellent.

Really? I'm rarely wrong! There are some who would not take too kindly to the 'relegated' comment but I'll let it go this time LOL

ps...Not many straight men know the 'gaydar' term, you sure I'm wrong LMFAO

That's nice to know and quite surprising, people always told me it is bumpkinville in the north, can't wait to find out! I'm getting on a bit now so the peace and quiet will me most welcome...with the occasional trip to town of course LOL

I had second thoughts about ‘relegated’ but was too lazy to change it. Thanks for giving me a pass on that one.wink.png One does not live in Thailand as long as I have without learning a thing or two along the way. I have a fair, non-straight vocabulary, in both Thai and English.whistling.gif
