Lost/stolen Passport & Renewal Visa

Featured Replies

Greetings - My passport can't be found. I've notified my embassy as well as the Thai police and the Tourist Police at the base of the road going up Doi Suthep. A copy of both the Thai and English police reports have been given to my embassy in Bangkok and I've been told by my embassy that I'll receive a replacement passport within 2 weeks.

My question concerns what forms might I download before going to the Chiang Mai immigration dept. to apply for a new visa? I arrived in Chiang Mai straight from Hong Kong on Sept. 12 via the Dragonair flight from Hong Kong. My visa was a 60 day tourist visa which I was planning to extend for the extra 30 days and this 60 day tourist visa was obtained at the Thai Consulate in Hong Kong. My embassy didn't have a clue as to how I should prepare for applying for a replacement visa.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

you need to take the forms to the Immigration office, if you crossed a border they might have something on the computer, however if not, then I believe your visa has been lost.

Thanks beano. Are you referring to the police forms? I was wondering if there were additional forms required by Immigration which I could download before going to the Immigration office?

My visa was a single entry visa, so I reckon that I'll have to reapply for a new visa (whichever type of visa they'll allow me to apply for).

Thanks for the help!

It seems very peculiar to me that your passport has been stolen at immigration, found and little effort been put forward by the police to retrieve your passport ASAP. Since the police know the whereabouts of the passport, the police should retrieve the passport or find out where this person with your passport lives and go get it yourself.

However you may continue to receive little help from the police as this matter seems extremely odd to me. Keep in mind that your passport is the property of your government, not the Thai police. You may wish to go ahead and tell your embassy about what happened today and not wait for the Thai authorities to continue finding excuses for not retrieving your passport ASAP.

I received my new Canadian passport about 1 week after reporting it missing. I then went to Chiang Mai immigration who had a photo of me on their computer, taken when I arrived in Chiang Mai. I received my old visa and then happily went home. Took all of 15 minutes.
