An anti-narcotics task force squad patrolling the Chindwin River in northern Burma’s Sagaing Division has seized a haul of drugs valued at US$1.57 million, according to state media reports on Tuesday. The drugs, including 13.06 million of pseudoephedrine-based cold and flu tablets weighing 2,005 kg and 9 kg of ephedrine, were found aboard a motorized boat near the village of Latpansu in Kani Township, the reports said. Five people were arrested during the raid. In July, state media reported that Burmese authorities had penalized 473 suspects in connection with 342 drug-related cases.
