Thai Cultural Mandates

Featured Replies

I was browsing the wikipedia for another thread and bumped into these:

http://en.wikipedia....ltural_mandates

I haven't previously learned of them, but some seem awfully familiar.. such as:

"Thai people must never reveal anything to foreigners that might damage the nation. These actions are a betrayal of the nation."

"Thai people must not secretly purchase land on behalf of foreigners in a way that endangers the nation. These actions are a betrayal of the nation."

"Thai people should make an effort to consume only food made from Thai products."

"Thai people should carry out their normal personal activities as follows:

  1. "Eat meals at set times, no more than four daily;
  2. "Sleep approximately 6-8 hours.

and so on and so on. Interesting to see those were actually written down as a mandate. Looks like some of them were very well adopted. The mealtime thing didn't take, though.

Yep, thanks for sharing..

I find the first rule quite interesting, when i realized that i was a bit shocked, as we have nothing like that in my homecountry.

Even your Thai wife, if you have one, is more than likely to follow the mandate.
