Burma’s ruling party, the military-backed Union Solidarity and Development Party, is facing internal divisions as it prepares to hold its national conference next week, according to a report by The Myanmar Times. USDP MPs in Irrawaddy Division have threatened to dismiss the regional government, whose members are from the same party. The MPs are also upset with attempts by the party’s general secretary, Htay Oo, to restore discipline, the reports said. The party will meet from Oct. 14 to 17 to discuss its rout by the opposition National League for Democracy in April 1 by-elections.
