Need 3 Desktop Pc

howto

Recommended Posts

Have not assembled a "bare-bones" pc since '97.

I need 3 desktops...

Spent 3 days trying to research,

the choices now, in all hardware, is mind-blowing.

I've not the time for this.

Please, what do u suggest.

Will be purchased from Zeer Rangsit, this weekend.

Prefer them assembled, tested, from one shop.

IN ESSENCE,

THE ONLY DIFF IS THE CPU 'TWEEN the UNITS

ALL UNITS...

- mobo: LGA 1155~1156

- prefer ASUS (- but don't care,

- Gigabyte or ASROCK is ok)

- EFI bios (updt from forums.mydigitallife.info)

- no UEFI bios

- DIMM slots 3 or 4

- DDR3 4GB

- AGP Single 16+

- 3 PCI

- SATA3 6GB (6+)

- USB3 (6+)

- Case - cheap

- PSU - cheap 300w

CPU Cooler - Stock

GPU - DISCREET (-prefer AMI, but don't care)

- must have HDMI and VGA

- must be mid level gaming (greater than NV GT-335m)

- fanless is preferred

Disc - 80~128 GB SSD (OS) (NO Sandforce)

Disc - WD 500GB green (DATA)

Disc - Optical - BLU-RAY RW...

- that has a firmware from www.rpc1.org

OS - None

Monitor - None

Keyboard - None

Mouse - None

ON 2 UNITS (for children, mid level gaming)

cost - sub 16K THB

CPU - Sandy Bridge Celeron 2-core

ON 1 UNIT (for me)

cost - sub 20K THB

CPU - Sandy Bridge i5 (2-core)

IN ESSENCE,

THE ONLY DIFF IS THE CPU 'TWEEN the UNITS

Beyond giving advice on the HW...

Can u rec a shop at Zeer?

T'anks for the advice

I should have mentioned...

as to index a gaming perf...

have an ASUS_A42JV Laptop...

i5-450m with a NV GT-335m

Plays smooth

-Half-Life2

-Unreal Gold

(both @max settings)

Have a older HP Pavillion

LGA775

Pentium-4 Presler

NV GT-220

Used as a bkup srvr

Loud, noisy

Not smooth on those games.

not worth upgrading

other 5 'puters are '96

BX chipset, 1GHz Celeron, 768MBSDRAM, Matrox G200

forget it

these are what I need to replace.

The 3 children are fighting over using the Laptop.

So 2 for them and one for me.

I can upgrade these new ones in 3 years.

Just my idea....from the position of someone having 10 PC.

Keep the PCs as similar as possible.

When you have some specific strange problems, you have to investigate them just once and not 3 times.

If something is not working, or sometimes working sometimes not, you can swap components. Like the RAM. If you than have the rare problems moved to a other computer than it was the RAM....etc etc.

I have here Z77X-UD3H from Gigabyte with the i5-3xxxK (x for the numbers I forgot, the ivy bridge) and the Agility 3 SSD (everyone complains but I didn't had a single problem).

I always had Western Digital HD, Green, Blue and Black....today another died I think there is not a single one which I didn't claim as broken.

3 or 5 years warranty...got all replaced with refurbished one, but it is still a hassle to play back the backups.

At those prices seeing you don't have any spare time and are happy with integrated graphics then buy HP, Acer or Lenovo already assembled but your required hard disks in the cheaper PCs might not be in your price range.

If you want the better value of a computer shop assembly with better performance than the big name brands offer then the components change almost weekly so a walk around Zeer yourself is your best choice unless someone here happened to buy something matching your request in the past month. Make IT City your starting point for what is on offer ready made. Not sure in your price range if you can get 6x USB 3.0, more likely a mix of USB2 and USB3. The cheap power supplies in the small computer shop builds are usually the weak spot.

That ASUS doesn't use the video card. It's using the processor for everything. I know. I owned one. It's crap. I hate NVIDIA.

@h90

Yes, totally agree, been there, done that,

been doing systems since '75...

Huge infrastructure systems.

That is why I'm asking for rec's on...

- mobo

- cpu

I do want them HW sync'ed

Read the 'old' threads on tv, several...

more than a year old...

they don't apply today...

-t'anks for your rply

@thaicruze

your nutz

there is no way intel gma graphics

can do half-life2 or unreal gold

at full rez and full settings

Hell yes it works.

I don't like NV either...

mostly for the PITA drivers.

But that is another story.

So you had nothing to contribute

to this thread, 'cept to bitch down NV?

Dammit I need a mobo and cpu.

Help or <deleted>.

Please, I need the 'puters...

and really don't have the time to spend researching.

I don't want to drop down to LGA775

to meet the price point.

That would be pointless.

I don't have time to go 'walking around' Zeer.

Why??

Let me explain...

We live at Klong Sam Pathumthani.

We got hammered by the 2011 flood.

I estimate 3 mil THB in damage.

For compters lost

- 6 workstations + monitors

- 3 high quality servers

- 1 hp dlt bkup unit

- 2 large B4 hp scsi scanners

- 1 hardware Adaptectec raid5 5 disc array

- 10 hd

- 9 APC UPs's

My three businesses are dead.

My metal workshop is dead...

cnc comp and x-y table...

bench lathe, press'es, tools,

plasma cutter, gas torch,

gmaw and mig and tig welder.

My woodworking workshop is dead...

lathe and tools

I simply do not have time for this...

we have painters in-and-out side the house...

and doing the parquit floors.

So far 300K THB.

Next I have electrics, plumbing,

and a 2 rai lawn with shrubbery.

I will likely do most of it.

I need 3 cheap computers

for the kids and myself.

Personaly I doubt I can do it,

at the prices I spec'ed

because of the exorbant cost for HD

I read all the other threads on TV...

latest is about a year old.

Spent bit of time per day researching,

TOO MUCH INFO on mobo and cpu.

dam_n at all the choices.

So much has changed.

I NEED MOBO/CPU REC'S...

The rest of the equip is simple.

So please help if you can.

If you are in a hurry, but it at invadeit, they build it for you and that guy can also recommend something. He is honest I bought a lot from him. Including the most amazing low cost system I would never have found myself.

I also bought the TF700t from him, it was dead on arrival. As there was a longer delivery time for replacement he immediately transferred the money back....Can only tell the best about him...

My motherboard recommendation goes to: Z77X-UD3H from Gigabyte: Reason...no crashes, no driver issues, no nothing, I already forgot which mobo I have.

By the way if you have any broken down CNC components or even a lathe...let me know, I am always looking for such for my workshop.

In your opening post you mentioned as a criterion: "AGP Single 16+" -- what do you need an AGP slot for? That's a rather outdated standard, but perhaps you have a piece of hardware that must use it?

You also list "3 PCI". Do you mean PCIe? Or, do you again have hardware that would require three PCI slots? Many motherboards come with a mixture of PCIe and PCI slots, but I haven't seen one with three PCI slots for a while.

Most sincere aplogies for the <deleted> comment

I'm really stressed.

Indeed you were correct...

there 'was' a problem...

however for the Asus laptop...

there is a service faq which says

update the NV Firm/Soft ware.

Which I did at the first install.

So it works on that...

Unknown if it works,

on the HP with a GT-220...

which is a crap card anyway.

Again, apologies.

Yep, you are correct, for Vid, it's PCIe not AGP.I'm a dinosaur. It's ONE PCIe for vid andTWO PCI for older cards.T'anks for pointing it out.

@yankee99

'300watt psu with a cheap case and poor cooling?'

There is no reason that a pc with...

- a non-OC i3~i5 Sandy Bridge Celeron

with a fanless GPU

One SSD (Vertex 4 perhaps)

One Spinner

will not require more than 200w.

So 300w is ok

Even cheap cases have extra ports for fans.

Think HTPC.

The Sandy Bridge has great power mgmnt.

Oak Trail is even better, but too much $$$.

T'anks for the reply

invadeit.

Yep, looked there.

And thanks for your specs.

Am considering InvadeIT as an option.

I really can't walk around Zeer much.

Was bitten by a Russels Viper

year ago June.

Really kicked my butt.

Ischemic event...

Paralysis full left leg...

3 Weeks Thammasat ICU.

Still only back to 90% mobility.

Must Forge Ahead, Never Say DIE.

ANYWAY...

No ZEER this weekend.

To many contractors coming for quotes.

Guess I'll wait a week or two.

ALL REPLYS are WELCOME.
