Cheaper In Taiwan?

Featured Replies

I suddenly need a new high-end notebook computer and I'll be spending a few days in Taiwan in a week or so. I'm wondering if anyone knows if buying one of the Taiwanese computers like Acer or Asus will be cheaper if I actually purchase it over there as opposed to Bangkok? Any hints as to the best places to look?

Thanks for the help.

I always check the Nova small computer mall (and the K Mall) next to Shin Kong Mitsukoshi department store in the super tall tower (near the Taipei Main station) because I find myself in that neighborhood several times a year....they seem to have the latest and best deals (especially for local Taiwanese brands, which are very good)....the prices for local Taiwanese brands seem to beat the Bangkok prices, but not by a wide margin....

Thanks, trajan. That's really useful information. When you talk about the local Taiwanwse brands, are you including the big names like Acer and Asus, or are you meaning brands that are ONLY local and which most of us would never have heard of? Since I don't expect to get back to Taiwan on any regular basis, I'm thinking that for a big item such as a notebook I might be best to stick with a brand that has a service center in Bangkok. Got any thoughts on that point?

Again, thanks for your great and specific info. I'm already getting excited about putting it to use.

i find getting toshiba laptops (z series and/or r series) in taiwan is a much better bet (toshiba laptop price in thailand is a ripoff), and it comes with 3 year international warranty.... the only drawback is u get a english keyboard with chinese printingon it

yes, I mean the big Taiwanese names like Acer and Asus....if you really want computer overload orgy...I would go to COMPUTEX TAIPEI (but not until next June)..largest computer exhibition in Asia (and 2nd in the world after CeBIT in Germany) http://www.computext...n_US/index.html

if you are a real techie you should try Kuanghwa (sometimes transliterated as Guanghua) Market at Zhongxiao Xinsheng (Chongshiao- HsingSheng) subway station...

TIP: Buy an EasyCard when in Taipei (like the Hong Kong Octopus Card)..you can use on all transit systems as well as all kinds of shops, 7-11s, etc.) you can store value and use anytime you are in Taipei..very convenient
