Bangkok's New City Motto Unveiled

Featured Replies

It was chosen as the winner in a motto contest.

There's no name given as the winner but congratulations should go that child anyway.

If it was indeed a child, I would agree.

A motto needs to be short, punchy and accurate.

I would suggest.

"Bangkok: Thinks, Drinks, Sinks."

too long....

"Let's get bangkok moving" cheesy.gifclap2.gif

Then I got 2 words for you - Bangkok.

How about:

Bang-kok... yeah... that pretty much sums it up.

Maybe they should leave the kok out?

Bangkok, heavenly and devilish, all in a day

There is only one Bangkok right? It is the shit hole located more or less in the center of Thailand right? They cant mean that one or do they?cheesy.gifcheesy.gif

Bangkok - Don't believe that stuff on the travel forums.

It really should mention something about the generous number of malls

It really should mention something about the generous number of malls

With the most malls insanely crammed into 4 city blocks you've ever seen.

What a god awful motto. Which committee came up with it?

And why do they call Bangkok the City of Angels anyway?

Or should it be angles.... as most people there seem to have one.

I am no Thai writing expert, but the signs are either going to be impossible to read in a passing car, or be dangerous for pedestrians.

Bangkok - The Airport With a City Attached

Bangkok - Mai bpen rai...

The government finding ways to lower their credibility never ceases to amaze me

So nobody suggested the obvious ?

Bangkok - The Hub of Hubs

"Bangkok, glorious as if created by angels, the administration centre, beautiful temples, glittering palaces, the capital of Thailand"

This new motto selection should prove that there aren't any clueless idiots in Bangkok's governement.

I thought PT had already decided on " Burn baby, burn" as a motto.

The best tourism market slogan I ever saw was that from the Australian Northern Territory:

"You'll Never Never Know If You Never Never Go"

As a tourist marketing tool the BKK motto? should maybe be in a form that translates to the target markets?

On par with some Thai language tourist information ?

Wonder why these are in English?:...lol

Bangkok - The city where a numbskull relative of the contest organizer wins the motto contest.

"Concrete Jungle" thumbsup.gif

Bangkok - Don't Stop Carry On !

- In a few minutes I garnered the following. I concluded that we need a new definition.

Motto:

Short phrase that usually expresses a moral aim

Short sentence or phrase that expresses a rule for sensible behaviour

Brief statement used to express a principle, goal, or ideal.

Usually pithy and familiar statement expressing an observation or principle generally accepted as wise or true

Word or phrase used regularly to characterize something or some group

Phrase meant to formally summarize the general motivation or intention of a social group or organization.

Sentence, phrase, poem, or word prefixed to an essay, chapter, and novel

Short, suggestive expression

Slogan, catchword, shibboleth (noun)

Favourite saying of a sect or political group

Brief statement of cherished truth -

Do you mean "Short phrase that usually expresses a moral aim Short sentence or phrase that expresses a rule for sensible behaviour Brief statement used to express a principle, goal, or ideal. My vote's in!

"The Thai slogan - no official English translation was made available."

"The Motto will be used to promote tourism."

So I guess it will not be used to promote tourism amongst the english speaking populous of the world.......

Wonder how it reads in Russian?

Bangkok - Where Your Wet Dreams Come True.

Cut the double entendre will you? We want no allusion to floods!

Did we need another reminder, that some people just live in constant denial and a made up universe?

Bangkok is Soi Cowboy

Bangkok - Where Your Wet Dreams Come True.

Cut the double entendre will you? We want no allusion to floods!

Sorry, I just waded in without thinking. I'll get my boat now. :(
