A Seoul newspaper has released graphic photos of the aftermath of an attempt on the life of former South Korean President Chun Doo-Hwan during a state visit to Burma in 1983. The Chosun Ilbo, a leading daily, published the photos on Thursday, two days after the 29th anniversary of the attack and a day after Burmese President Thein Sein concluded a three-day visit to South Korea. The attack killed 21 people, including three senior South Korean officials, and was carried out by North Korean agents who had planted bomb at the Martyrs’ Monument in Rangoon.
