The Burmese government’s Union Peacemaking Work Committee reached an agreement with the Shan State Progress Party/Shan State Army (known as the SSA-North) in Lashio on Thursday to allow the group to set up a village for resettling family members and internally displaced persons, according to a report by the Shan Herald Agency for News. Other issues, including fighting in areas traversed by the Sino-Burmese oil and gas pipelines and Burmese army demands that the SSA-North withdraw troops from the Ta Hsarm Pu crossing over the Pang River, were not discussed, the report said.
