October 12, 201213 yr Can anyone recommend a quality lock for outdoor use that won't rust. It's too bad that they don't sell Masterlocks here in Thailand, then I would be a no-brainer. Locksmiths I've spoke with will recommend either Ison or Solex, but although they may be made of stainless steel on the outside, the internal lock mechanisms are made of inferior materials that rust. I'm more than willing to pay the additional cost to purchase quality equipment, but here in the LOS, it's difficult to find anything that is manufactured to quality standard -- locks in particular.
October 12, 201213 yr I have TIGON padlocks outside, they have been there for 4 years and look the same as the day I bought them. They have a type of chromium finish to them. Edited October 12, 201213 yr by CharlieH
October 12, 201213 yr Go and have a look in the likes of home pro, Index etc....many types of locks some even imported, Yale and believe I have seen "Masterlocks" as well, have shop around you will find what your looking for not just Solex or Ison
October 12, 201213 yr I got a water resistant one at Lotus. I don't like it. Hard to lock. But it does have a nice plastic finish.
October 12, 201213 yr There are Masterlocks available at True Value (if you live close enough to one of the few branches they have here). At Home Pro, there is a grade 4 (I believe) Yale padlock that is encased in rubber. I have dozens of these that have lasted 5+ years with no issues (careful not to let the rubber grommets come off though). :-)
October 13, 201213 yr If anyone knows where I bought the alarmed locks I've got can you remind me please ? I want some more.
October 13, 201213 yr Hi Connda, I use Solex locks on my houses and just squirt the barrels about once a year with WD40. These locks are on the outside gates, so they are exposed to the elements and in the 5 to 6 years that I have been using them, I have never had any problems. Regards, Tiger
