Welcome to the forum! smile.png

It rains less than during the wet session.

In the past during the cool season, Bangkokians have been seen to occasionally sport jackets.

It very rarely rains in the cool season. Could just as easily be called the dry season as it is in parts of Africa.

Can still get bloody hot during the day but the nights are usually cooler.

But bear in mind cold in Bangkok is when you put the fan down to '1'. A cold snap is when you turn the fan off.

Even the cool season could be said to be hotter than a British summer.

And even if it did rain, it would be gone quickly and within an hour or so you would never even know it had rained.

Depends whether you are north, south or central, I live in Chumphon, night temps go as low as a frigid 23-25C at night and as high as 28-31C during the day.

As low as 20 degrees in the evenings in Bangkok last year IIRC.

Saw shivering Thais throwing on puffa jackets and scarves laugh.png

A couple of years ago they had a little ground frost, everyone was standing around in shock.

last year was pretty cool in maehongson. impossible to ride during the night without a proper jacket and gloves.

that was the period of the year when people are asking heaters for pool!

In pattaya it get chilly around a week around new year

We have a fireplace.

Very cold, you'd better import some coats.

The coolest I've seen is around 20 C in the morning in Bangkok in late December, and 10-15 in the "mountains" around Khao Yai

There was one day two years ago the daily high in Bangkok was only 65F, the Thais were bundled up like a blizzard was about to hit. Motorcycle taxi guys on my soi started a bonfire in the street to keep warm. I was loving it.

Most of the time in Bangkok you'll be lucky to get a few days with highs under 80F. Nights in the 70s are more common but the days are still muggy and hot most of the time, just not AS muggy and hot.

i have been cold in bangkok at night time and all the locals had hats and scarfs on - think this was 2.5 years ago.

I was also cold one night in hua hin this year as well - was looking for the heater on my car and then realised it only has blue for cold - no hot setting

Very cold, you'd better import some coats.

No need, plenty of 'hot' ladies available. smile.png

but admit it, they would only be of any use to you if you burned them

Usually, I laugh like crazy at the comments about it being chilly/cool/cold in Thailand. here in the Highlands of Scotland today we had a high of 5 and it will be below 0 (sorry yanks we gave degrees F lo-o-o-ong ago!). No wonder I'm looking forward to getting back to CM early in the New Year!

However, there may be a serious side to "low" temperatures in Thailand, as the link below shows, albeit a very extreme case, although IMHO it is unproven.

I was feeling so sorry for the dogs during the summer months. It was so hot that monks were openly cursing on the streets and birds were bursting into flame in mid-air. Now, with the temps finally dropping into the tolerable range, what do the in-laws do? Put sweaters on the dogs, of course!

I do remember a rye smile when the Army were having their 'Flu' shots and it was a sunny 25C outside.

In Bangkok last Winter, almost not a drop of rain and low 20's C at night and high 20's - low 30's C during the day.

Because of the thermal mass of a large city the latent heat stores up during the day and re-radiated at night.

Was one night of 17C out at the Farm just south of Bangkok.

The Ch 3 or 7 crew (forget which) were up in Chiang Mai and the Thai's were loving the early morning fog. Frost in the valleys!

Best time of year to be in Thailand ... Winter

It's funny to watch the thais wrap up with jackets and scarves even though the temps are still in the 70s. We would be glad of that in a British summer.

Coming up is winter No: 9, past 8 have always been annoyed with myself I left my electric blanket behind. 50 km N.W of BKK

In pattaya it get chilly around a week around new year

in 2008/9 we had two full cool months in Pattaya, mid november till mid january 2009. but i was told that happens once i a century.

At 21. Deg C, Thais start wearing ski jackets and baliclavas.

Occasionaly the temperature on top of some remote high mountain in the north will drop to below zero and produce a light frost or a thin piece of ice in some puddles.

These occasions are marked by a mass migration of Thais from around the country heading to same remote mountain to take photos of themselves wearin 15 layers of cloathing and giving the old V finger sign next to a puddle which repotadly had ice in it three days earlier.

Thai language web forums are then awash with photos of snow, frost and ice..., taken in other parts of the world.
