Burma’s state-run Myanmar Posts and Telecommunications plans to dramatically reduce its ADSL Internet fees starting from Nov. 1, state media reported on Thursday. The fee for setting up a new connection will fall from 50,000 kyat (US $58) to ($694), while the current monthly rate for 512 Kbps-2.5 Mbps connections will drop from 30,000-200,000 kyat ($35-230) to 17,000-80,000  kyat ($20-92). The rates for foreign companies, organization and embassies will be roughly the same as those for Burmese customers. Burma’s government announced last month that it plans to privatize the country’s telecoms industry.
