Burmese musicians will no longer be required to submit their song lyrics to the state censorship board for approval, according to a report by the Democratic Voice of Burma. The announcement was made by
Phyu Phyu Kyaw Thein, a well-known singer and the general secretary of the government-backed Myanmar Music Association (MMA). The Lyrics Scrutiny and Registration Committee, a department under the MAA, will take over the job of scrutinizing song lyrics and rating them as suitable or unsuitable for audiences under the age of 18. In August, controls over print media were similarly relaxed.
