PATTAYA:--A Russian Mother who ran out into the road to pull her 7 year old daughter out of the path of an oncoming 18-wheel truck was herself run over and killed close to the Dor-Shada Hotel on the Sukhumvit Road in Na-Jomtien early on Saturday Morning.

Na-Jomtien Police and rescue services were called to the scene of the crash, outside a Russian Restaurant, the Maya Pectopah Seafood Restaurant located next to the Hotel to deal with the crash scene. Lying on the road was the body of Mrs. Kolchanuva aged 30. She had sustained a number of life-ending injuries. Her 7 year old daughter was seriously injured and rushed to the Bangkok Hospital Pattaya for treatment.

Witnesses to the crash claimed the family, consisting of the victim, her Husband and their daughter, had just left the Seafood Restaurant when the daughter ran out into the road. The victim ran out to pull her back but was struck by an 18-wheel truck, who witnesses claim would not have been able to avoid the collision with the victim. The truck driver, Khun Supachai aged 21, remained at the scene and supported witness statements and claimed he was powerless to avoid the accident.

RIP - very sad, and what a great mother.

Also, not to make light... but thumbs up to the driver as well who didn't flee the scene.

Is there any reason that he should have fled the scene? Seems like you have an issue with Thai people. Get over it.

What is wrong with you people. Why shouldn't a 21 year old be driving? And why should the diver leave the scene. Get over your prejudices.

whats wrong with you?havnt you heard about drivers leaving the scene, must be about 90%.but if it was a diver he would have a problem.

Many flee an accident scene in LOS for their own safety or are unlicensed etc. We read it here regularly. sad.png

I think we can get over the fact you appear out of touch with the reality of road behavior in Thailand

For someone who has over 500 posts you sure don't seem to have read very many stories about vehicular deaths...

us brits know to obtain a hgv licence in the uk.you have to have provisional training then a test, but here what if any training do they have, those of us that hold thai driving licence knows how thai's get theirs.so to drive a double trailer at 21 when the legal age to drive a car is 18 i wonder what tests you have to go through here.this seems a tragic accident with the driver at no fault at all.

And why is that? A 21 yo can drive buses and trucks as long as he is in possession of a proper driver license.

I know of one particular guy who would like to work a transport company.

In order to drive an 18 wheel truck he had to attend a training in Bang Na for approx. 6 weeks, failed several tests and finally after 3 months he passed and was allowed on the road, to start with a 10 wheel truck. This guy was 37.

It doesn't mean that a truck driver is always classified, but if you see the random road checks by the high way police......they'd better be.

It seems your problem is that you base everything on what your read in the press. Get out into the real world and you'll see that's it's very different to what's reported on here. You seem to be assuming that reported stories are the norm. They're not the norm in any country; they're usually the exceptions to the norm. Accidents where the driver doesn't flee don't tend to make the news, because it's no normal that no-one is interested in reading it. Do you really expected to have 100s of stories saying two cars crashed and the drivers exchanged details? How boring would that be? But that's exactly what happens in the overwhelming majority of cases.
