Good Nokia Nonsmartphone?

I don't need a smartphone and have no insecurities about phone fashion and my own technical abilities.

Frankly, I like my old Nokia N72

now on its last legs after 6 years and definitely clunky. Good camera w/ flash, noise-filtering mic (good for holding conversations while in noisy bars), good sound, internet if needed (never needed, actually), and especially USB connectivity to PC Suite software, quite a good package that lets you do most anything.

Anybody know of a more recent Nokia model, reasonably priced, currently on the market that might be comparable? Maybe Nokia's going out business and I should get one now anyway. Tnx.

I think your options may be somewhat limited, along the lines of an Asha 302 or 303, assuming you want a non-touchscreen model.

Non-touchscreen, keyboard & display about like the N72, budget < 3000. Will check the Asha. Any experience w/ those, anyone?

Having been the smart phone route, dealing with failed touch screens, being totally ripped off by Samsung, etc. I finally woke up and smelled the coffee. I bought a simple Nokia, a warhorse like all the villagers have, and have lived happily ever after.

The one special feature the phone has is two hot swappable sim cards. Both are active all the time. It allows you to have both AIS and DTAC. Or, just run it on a single sim card, like I do most of the time (DTAC). If I am on a road trip, I just pick up a cheap AIS sim, so I still have a phone in the DTAC dead spots. It’s quite nice. This phone is also a Bluetooth MP3 player, and not just Bluetooth, it’s A2DP, which is nice for music. It has a micro SD card slot, which I use for music storage. It’s actually pretty loaded with features that I do not use (calendar, timers, etc.). I have never used the camera. I just shove it in my pocket, no holsters. It’s a tough unit.

The phone is a “Nokia C2-00 Dual Band,” and cost 1,850 baht in Phitsanulok.

I have had the phone one year and ten days, and, unlike the typical Samsung that breaks the day the warranty runs out, it still works perfectly. I expect to be using it another four or five years.

It looks exactly like the one in the OP's picture.

I too wanted a good phone with a keypad but one requirement was that it had to have a good camera. I was dragged kicking and screaming into the touchscreen smart phone age. It appears that all phones with a decent camera are touchscreens. I must admit that I am now addicted to phones that have a great camera with large display. I still regard smart phones as mainly toys but they do have excellent cameras.

In my opinion, the biggest bang for the baht are Motorola phones. I have a Defy plus that is water resistant, shock resistant and has a good 5 MP camera. I had my mind made up that my next phone would be a Razr Maxx with the huge battery and an 8 MP camera. Unfortunately I was playing with a Galaxy S3 and really liked the camera and bigger screen. I now use the S3 and my wife has put claim on the Defy so everything has worked out.

I assume you're talking about Motorola smartphones? I'm not gonna get one. There are still Nokia keypad phones out there and I'm gonna get one, it's just a matter of which one.

I hate fiddly touchscreens.

I recently got a Nokia X2 which reminds me very much of the old N72 (my previous model) and has a nice HD (MIcroSD) capacity of up to 32GB, dual SIM and all the usual bits and bobs.

You keep trotting this crap out, and I keep asking you to detail your experience, which seems limited to one phone.

As I said, I have four Samsung devices, two in and two out of warranty, and have had no problems.

If you aren't prepared to explain why you think "all" samsung devices "typically break the day the warranty runs out", one can only assume you are generalising and therefore cannot be taken seriously.

I have a Nokia E61 that went tits up a few weeks after warranty expired, it was cheaper to replace than to repair. Get over it.

Most of Nokia's "feature" phones (i.e. not Smartphones) use the S40 OS which may well be dead in a year, but if it still does the job why would you care?

There are a number of "Asha" models that have QWERTY keyboards if that's your bag; I really liked the E61 when I got it, shame it didn't carry on working very long.

Sometimes it is best to ignore the trolls, or add them to your Ignore list. Eventually they'll go away. Or at least we can hope they will.
