2010 POLITICAL VIOLENCE

Red-shirt offers to double rewards

The Nation

BANGKOK: -- A red-shirt leader has offered to raise the reward to Bt2 million on each of seven unsolved cases to try to hasten the capture of hit-men suspected of killing people during the political turmoil in mid-2010.

Somwang Assarasi, deputy chairman of the United Front for Democracy against Dictatorship, met yesterday with Department of Special Investigation (DSI) director-general Tharit Pengdit and offered his own money to double the Bt1-million bounty on each of the seven cases, to increase the incentive and bring about a speedy arrest of the culprits.

He said other red-shirt leaders may follow in his footsteps and donate assets, such as plots of land, to increase the rewards.

Tharit welcomed the move, saying he had checked with legal experts and found that it was possible for outsiders to contribute to the bounties.

Meanwhile, red-shirt activist Jatuporn Prompan gave a statement to DSI investigators yesterday about the 91 deaths during the 2010 political strife.

He said he told the agency to obtain footage from a surveillance camera installed at the Centre for Resolution of the Emergency Situation (CRES), located at the 11th Infantry Regiment's barracks, as he had been informed that Royal Thai Police vans had been seen entering the centre carrying people dressed in black.

He also told the DSI it should question the soldier who collected and recorded orders issued by the CRES, as well as the person who prepared a diagram of an alleged network of people plotting to overthrow the monarchy.

Opposition and Democrat Party leader Abhisit yesterday questioned what he called Jatuporn's "changing theory" over the so-called "men in black".

He said Jatuporn had earlier said there were no men-in-black, but now he admitted that the men did exist and that he had seen them in police cars.

In a separate development, Surachai Thaewatat, a close aide to the late red-shirt Army Maj Gen Kattiya Sawasdiphol, told the Criminal Court yesterday that he did not trade in illegal weapons.

Surachai, 28 and a native of Buri Ram province, was arrested on June 2010 and accused of trading war weapons, including grenades, guns and bullets, without permits, and owning illegal firearms. Prosecutors said the arrest of Surachai took place in Bang Lamung in Chon Buri.

The court scheduled witnesses to testify in July next year. Some 28 witnesses are due to testify.

Double bluff!

1st of the lame excuses.

So let's hear your lame excuses for:

Chalerm: The MiB were police officers

Korkaew: There were no MiB

Jatuporn: The MiB were soldiers

"Seh Daeng" Sawasdipol: The MiB are my "Ronin Warriors".

He has gone strangely quite all of a sudden.

Well, back to the article shall we?

How do you feel about the UDD offering large amounts of money as a reward for MiB convictions? That would seem rather ridiculous if as you claim they were actually funded & controlled by the same people.

How much are the Dems offering?

I see you are back. You must have forgotten to answer the above post from MikeOboe57. Do you have time to answer now? Paitently waiting for your reply.

As this post has no quotes it's a bit unclear who is meant with the 'you'. May I be so bold as to offer a few possible answers?

Back to the OP --> good idea!

UDD offer of money --> a bit leading question as you already partially answer it or at least suggest the only possible answer with the 'ridiculous if'

How much are the Dems offering --> nothing

Now an open qusstion to 'you/all/any': Why would the Dems offer anything? Don't the DSI and Dept. PM Pol. Captain Chalerm have all under control? Now I must admit though that if the Dems were only a wee bit more media savvy they'd stage a big fair and show a big cashier cheque to be paid to anyone giving useful info. Just like the ones former Deputy Prime Minister Yongyuth Wichaidit handed out in a big televised show.

You didn't address the first question.

The Dems could / and should have offered rewards. They are the ones continually making slanderous remarks. Thaksin did this, Thaksin did that. Well why didn't they make any progress with the MiB issue for the year they were in power after the MiB were 1st seen? Now the UDD are offering a reward. It's making the Dems look pretty sick.

The first question was "Well, back to the article shall we?"

The second question about the UDD offering a reward I indicated the 'leading' character' to which I object.

The third question I answered.

Now you try to get into your 'but the Dems' mood again. Well, even before you asked I already answered.

Why should the Democrats offer rewards? Isn't that a function of the police?

Maybe the red shirt leaders are offering rewards because they're the only ones that know who the MIB are.

Pheu Thai spokesman Phrompong seemingly representing the fugitive criminal k. Thaksin has lodged a complaint with a court regarding the recent Dem's remarks on Thaksin. The court is still deliberating whether or not to accept the case. Even if the case is accepted for consideration/judgement till the judgement we have only 'allegedly slanderous remarks'. Minor details, but I'm sure someone who has shown such knowledge on finer details of Thai law will be able to appreciate the subtle difference wink.png

It is only a shallow face saving move by the red idiots. If real evidence was presented they would of course revert to their "it's a lie" routine.

or they want to send a message to any whistle blowers - we are involved in this so be careful to those that are thinking of spilling the beans - we will know who you are and are willing to offer 1 million to keep your mouth shut - interesting response from Thaksin

Did they change this story? I seem to remember when I first read, it was "bounty" not "reward." Bounty seems more accurate when you are talking about red-shirt monetary contributions.

His own money?? These guys only have stolen money received from Thaksin.

No PPD. The MIB ARE controlled by the same people who offer the reward. They can get the money back. Get it!!! Therefore the amount is irrelevant.

- MIB??!! I thought they didn't exist. (According to UDD, Chalerm and the rest of the liars)

-To late to play this money/reward game. Should have done it before the dems came out.

I wonder what the response would be from the red thug leaders if there was a story in all Thai news papers with the headline "Anonymous farang living in Thailand who loves Thailand offers 30 million Bhat for proof the MIB were part of the Red Shirt organization".

The common saying is "time heals all" but maybe in Thailand this should be changed to "Time alters all", since it was the accepted notion at the time, and held by anyone who knew what was happening, that the M.I.B. were an elite branch of the redshirts. Offering a reward for any information as to the identity of these m.i.b. would seem to me to be purely a redshirt ploy to distort the facts and throw suspicion elsewhere, an excercise that they are particularly good at.
