Pattaya’s ladyboy community improving their image at fund raising event

PATTAYA: -- : With no police involved, over 40 Ladyboys, assisted by several foreigners are reported to have collected in excess of 260,000 baht and got wet in the process.

Pattaya’s Ladyboy community came together on Saturday afternoon at the Areca Lodge hotel in Soi Diana Inn, to participate in a water sports competition, raising money for two worthwhile local charities.

Teams from 8 bars competed for the Ladyboy Water Volleyball Championship under the guidance of the competition organiser, Englishman Tony Sales and, together with the evening event, raised over 260,000 Baht which was presented during the evening to the Local Rotary club’s water purification programme for remote villages in Thailand and to Pattaya orphanage.

Tickets for the event were totally sold out well in advance and, in a city where the Ladyboy image is often tarnished by grubby street thieves, the promoters of the event were excited to be able to display the other side of life with the third gender.

This, the very first of such events, is expected to become a regular feature in the city.

After the fun and games of the water volleyball, the teams retired, obviously to the hairdressers, before re-appearing at a ticket only, banquet in the evening, now dressed to the nines with newly fashioned hair and makeup.

It doesn't have to be about foreigners falling from their balcony, neither theft or other violence in Pattaya all the time. Apparently some more peaceful events can make it to the news as well.

Grammar Police posts have all been removed, nothing worthwhile to say then move to the next topic.

If you have a problem with the headline then take it up with the source please do not post it on here.

Suggest 'fund-raise' instead of 'take over' ... which could also mean/imply that Ladyboys have taken over ownership of a hotel!

As for the Orphanage, is this also the Friar Ray school for the disabled? It's an excellent school which puts to shame similar schools in Europe due to the quality of teaching and trying to find work for them when they leave. I wonder how many here, realise that one of Thailand's paralympic competitors also lives there?

Seriously? An innocent use of a common slang term completely derails a thread which for most of us was pleasant news of people helping people.

Get a life.

And as for " moron kot " I'm sure there are plenty of neo nazi forums you could be perusing but thanks for pointing out what an idiot you are to us all.

Excellent news!

Glad to hear that the katoeys are doing a good turn for charity.

Despite the naysayers that usually turn up in posts on the subject, they are just people the same as the rest of us, and to show the goodness in their heart like this is great!

I hope it does become an annual event, and that it grows to bring in more for deserving organisations.

Well done everyone!

This is it, I'm out a here.

If we aren't allowed to ventilate our concerns about the bad headline, then about what should we write here?

And Rimmer........DO NOT REMOVE THIS POST!

Gentlemen,

With the consent of the organisers of the event.... the headline was written as most would expect a story about ladyboys. the following body made it clear that it was a positive story. Part of the concept of the organiser was to promote a more positive view of the 3rd gender and the headline was intentional and not an error

Our news is actually produced for the website which is often read a little like a newspaper and we do try hard to keep it interesting. We also supported the event and attended. It was a seriously worthwhile fund raiser and all who attended appeared to have fun.

Kind regards

In other words "Sensationalism ".....Which works well for those that bother to read the article , but has the opposite ,undersired effect for those who just scan the headlines .

The essence of my post regarding the headline and my first thought about a robbery by lady boys, was that there was so much negative news about lady boys in the past, that it was surprising to read that it was all about a very successful fund raising event.

Of course, modern journalism should "play" with headlines to attract readers, but may cause also a wrong first impression.

Anyway, great that it happened and great that it was a success.

Thank you, Lady's for a long awaited "Good Time By all"! I Never once believed this was going to be a negative post, when you believe in someone... you never take the time to Doubt!

This should be a yearly Sport with Clubs in all Thialand. Every City in Provinces that have Clubs, competing for National Title. Every event should be posted as "Funds received 100% for Charities. If you Donate or purchase Tickets for any affiliated events, you should also get form to add favorite Charity to list. Each year at Songkhran the top 5 Charities are chosen to each receive equal shares in previous years series of events. This would do everyone right!

Ladies, all the cuts and bruises were not in Vain! I salute every last One of you!!! XOXOXO
