Who will run this venture. Some young guy who received his Doctorate in science because his parents had money for his high grades, and an education system that passes everyone. At what point does the rest of the free world step in and say I DON'T THINK SO.

Or will it be the same person who thought boats props could be used to move the flood waters out to sea. People from my homeland laugh and think I'm joking when I tell them this one..................

.... A bid to build a new reactor in Ongkharak in Nakhon Nayok has been put on hold due to a lawsuit. But Plodprasob said he would not wait till the lawsuit goes through the courts - he would seek to restart the project. ....

Oh, I don't mind a new atomic reactor. There should be only one unimportend mandatory term in the projekt - a different location. And that should be just beside the

a. home of the propeller-minister Plodrasop

b. home of the reigning MP

or

c) parliament.

That's the end of it ....wai.gif

Plobrobslob....scary to think this guy is a minister and one who has no respect for the law......Japan which is 1000% more together than Thailand just had a nuclear disaster....how about a field trip to Fukushima??? All I can say is thank god I'm leaving this screwed up country.

Well Fukushima, was very similar to Thailand. They ignored a lot laws over decades, the bribed the politics. There were no checks. If you look at the Japanese electric grid it is 1000 % worse than Thailands with a mess of systems that can't interconnect.

I can't understand how a modern country could do something like that.

With the laws and regulation only half implemented it would have survived without any problems.

IF the Japanese can't get it right after 40 years of building and running nuclear reactors. What chance has Thailand got? Stick to the rice farming and pay attention to the muslims terrorists before you think about anything else.

Nice try Plobprasob.

Boonchewin Chalakul, 17, another PTD student, said: "Before coming here, nuclear [power] meant weapons and destruction [bombs]. But, I found many advantages of nuclear [energy] here. So, [people should] please come and learn about what they've not known before."

The article is about a 10 MW nuclear reactor used for research and education. This is not about a nuclear power plant of the size of Fukujima.

Thailand has however plans to develop several nuclear power plants (several 1,000 MW reactors) to be put in service around 2025-2030.

For his expert & astute handling of the floods he gained a promotion & being an ex science minister has great knowledge of nuclear power. Good grief. Why not spend all these megabucks on promoting alternative energy sources such as solar & wind. Even small scale projects dotted throughout the country will make a huge difference to Thailand's energy consumption & if structured right could save the end user a lot of money on their power bill. A grand populist gesture which can benefit all.

Indeed, with such an astute scientific mind as the Boat Propeller Minister, it's difficult not to mourn his loss at the Science Ministry.

Luckily, the new Science Minister is even more astute and honest in his declarations.

The government's One tablet PC per Child policy will be fully implemented by May, Education Minister Woravat Auapinyakul pledged yesterday.

Such integrity sounds perfect to have his hands on the nuclear reactor, as well.

"Plodprasob wants a new nuclear reactor"

... unbelievable,.. the guy can't even handle water management,- Now he wants to play with nuclear power!!!

I can just imagine his policy on nuclear reactor meltdown,.. "if you see black clouds of smoke and distinctive smell from the power station,.. head for higher ground, run, or buy a boat!"

"Plodprasop was promoted in the latest reshuffle. Previously he was science and technology minister." (Now he's Deputy PM,.. is there any end to the incredulous mentality of this government?).

Given the additional recycling of ministers as per above, it's difficult to imagine an end to it.

The Nuclear Reactor Minister is well qualified in his chosen profession.

From the

Plodprasop: Flood Unlikely thread:

Is he a University of Kentucky graduate?

Yingluck = Kentucky State University (Master's Degree in public administration)

Plodprasop = Oregon State University (Master's Degree in fisheries management)

On the plus side with his 'pledging' record it's unlikely the reactor will ever be completed.

A nuclear reactor for the Science Guru.

It would do more for stopping the next Bangkok Flood than his boat propeller brainchild.

Just drop the fuel rods into the Chao Phraya and evaporate all the excess water.

.

I hope for everyone's sake, he doesn't read TV, else he might just steal your "great idea", Buchholz!

If only Thailand had some natural resources, like lots of sunshine and empty unproductive spaces....it would be possible to promote the technology of solar power. As it is though, the obvious choice has to be a home-built nuclear reactor. It is only logical, after all..

Maybe if they retrofitted a second hand nuclear reactor to the Royal Thai aircraft carrier, they could kill more birds with one stone..

They can't even get a foottie stadium ready for the FIFA cup and he wants to push forward with a nuclear reactor. If there is a problem(leak), he will probably have helicopters come in to push out the radioactive particles from he area! This guy needs to be muzzled or maybe keep him busy by giving him the idea to build a glorious museum highlighting all of Thailand's scientific and technological achievements.

I was in Singapore for 5 days and all I heard on the news channels was talk about Thailand not being ready for FIFA and how embarrassing this was for the country. The anchors on one occasion also joked that when they do the F1 race the racing surface probably won't be ready or there will be sinkholes. They said maybe it will turn into a demolition derby race.

So you base your decision-making on ill-natured and ill-informed television commentary from a foreign country on an unrelated topic? How much research have you done into the Thai nuclear industry? Do you have any comparative data on industrial safety at Thai manufacturing plants compared to other countries? How does the safety record of PTT compare to its peers?SC

Well, for starters PTT caused the greatest oil spillage in Oz maritime history from its platforms off the N.W. coat of Australia and had to pay zillions.... the cause was lack of oversight and cost cutting. I have to smile at people who say that everything will be OK because things will somehow be treated differently because it is NUCLEAR...or not to worry because they will bring in western specialists. I can't begin to understand the breathtaking naivety of such statements. Maybe they could bring in the likes of Union Carbide who handled Bhopal so spectacularly, or those in charge of Three Mile Island, or maybe Fukushima, or perhaps the experts in charge of the Exon Valdez, or, more locally the organisers who figured out how to open the underground in BKK then realised they had no trains. It is in the nature of man to be exploitative and make money... that is my opinion. It therefore follows that strong and transparent checks and balances in the public domain need to be in place to ensure public safety. Thailand does not operate in this way. Even here on Tv

http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/topic/555350-government-urged-to-release-facts-about-rayong-industrial-estate-accidents/

As for getting any information .... if you believe half of what you are told by this crowd (or any other crowd in power) then you are in fairy land. IMHO if the Japanese can stuff it up so badly then the Thais will do a better job .... of stuffing it up that is.
