Singapore Airlines (SIA) launched its maiden flight to Rangoon on Sunday, partly taking over its regional unit Silk Air, which currently offers 16 flights a week to the former Burmese capital. SIA will now fly to Rangoon once a day, while Silk Air will continue to have nine flights weekly. According to a report by Xinhua, the SIA flights will use Boeing 777-200 aircraft, while the Silk Air flights use  single-aisle Airbus A320s. Four other foreign airlines have begun new services to Rangoon since September: Korean Airlines, Qatar Airlines, Taiwan’s EVA Airlines and Japan’s All Nippon Airways.
