BANGKOK: -- His Majesty the King yesterday granted a royal audience to Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra and 23 newly appointed Cabinet members who took their oaths in the monarch's presence before officially assuming their duties.

The Cabinet members gathered at Government House in the afternoon to pose for a group picture before leaving for Siriraj Hospital in the evening, where they had an audience with His Majesty.

Yingluck will this morning chair the first Cabinet meeting since the latest reshuffle to allocate responsibilities to the new ministers and their deputies. The Cabinet skipped its normal weekly meeting on Tuesday to wait for the newcomers to complete the oath-taking ceremony.

Deputy Public Health Minister Cholnan Srikaew said after the royal audience that he had been given the right job in accordance with his training as a physician, and that he would perform his duty as declared by the government before Parliament.

The Cabinet meeting today will also appoint a new spokesman for the government, replacing Sansanee Nakpong, who has been named a minister attached to the Prime Minister's Office. Tossaporn Sereerak has been tipped to become the new government spokesman.

New Interior Minister Charupong Ruangsuwan said yesterday that his predecessor, Yongyuth Wichaidit, had agreed to become his chief adviser. He said Yongyuth finally agreed after being approached by Charupong three times.

Charupong said he would start work at the Interior Ministry at around 8am today, after handing over the job of transport minister, which he held in the previous Cabinet, to successor Chatchart Sithipan at about 7am.

No discussion of His Majesty but they "swore to be honest in conducting their ministerial duties for the good of the country and the people. "

A tall order but let us hope they keep their oath.

Did you expect them to be anything else than liars? Even under oath?

They already demonstrated how much they care about their country and fellow citizen, did not they?

It is said to be hard to serve two masters.. These people will most likely prove this wrong as greed and corruption go hand in hand.

I can't help but wonder how she/they earn all the ribbons they wear on their uniforms. it seems almost every government job has some military type of uniform available.

They are hoping that people will follow the military tradition and respect the uniform, if not the person wearing it.

Wahoo, less than an hour to handover a Ministerial position. When I used to change jobs it could take up to a week to handover to the successor. These guys must be absolutely sh*t hot!!

PM chairs first meeting of new cabinet

BANGKOK, Oct 31 – Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra chaired a meeting of her new cabinet at Government House today after leading the appointees for their swearing in ceremony before His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej yesterday.

The prime minister on Thursday evening led the newly-appointed ministers to Siriraj Hospital where the king has been staying for continuing physical therapy and nourishment to regain his strength after recovering from his earlier illness.

Deputy Premier/Education Minister Pongthep Thepkanchana said the king did not address the assembled cabinet during the ceremony because this is the PM’s third cabinet.

The premier is expected to delegate responsibilities to the new deputy premiers and other ministers during today's cabinet meeting amid speculation that Deputy Premier Chalerm Yubamrung will take charge of tackling the continuing southern insurgency in replacement of Gen Yuthasak Sasiprapa who was removed from his deputy ministerial post.

Thursday’s oath of allegiance ceremony was set after His Majesty the King on Sunday endorsed the major cabinet reshuffle involving 23 cabinet seats with new ministers from members of the so-called House No. 111--former executives of the disbanded Thai Rak Thai party, while some ministers have been promoted or transferred to other ministries.

As a group of 24 senators on Thursday petitioned the Senate Speaker seeking a Constitution Court ruling on the qualifications of new Minister to the Prime Minister's Office Varathep Rattanakorn. Prime Minister Yingluck reaffirmed that Mr Varathep's qualifications were already verified before the appointment.

Mr Varathep was convicted for malfeasance in violation of Article 157 of the Criminal Code in the two- and three-digit lottery case, but his jail term was suspended.

Mr Varathep himself said he is unworried about the senators' petition as his appointment is constitutional and the matter will not obstruct his ministerial post duties. (MCOT online news)

Well Jim it is quite simple. It only takes an hour (or less) to hand over the names and numbers of all the contacts for the pig trough of enrichment. I'm sure he will start work on time every day and probably work long hours as it is only a few months until the next reshuffle. So much money and so little time.

I am suitably impressed that the calibre of cabinet minister is improving.

I can't help but wonder how she/they earn all the ribbons they wear on their uniforms. it seems almost every government job has some military type of uniform available.

In this country some people get medals for actually showing up for work. BTW I do think they all look so smart in their tropical white uniforms, reminds me of the crew of the Costa Concordia. And we all know what the captain of that ship did.

The entire family was well-bestowed within only a few days

The warrior family's collective ribbon total is impressive, even after just a week of their first time in civil service.

What did her husband get his medals for?

He's not military nor civil service.

For the hardship being married to her?

Consider it: Listen to her every evening, when she tell what she did at work and what your brother in law told on the phone.

For that he surely deserves some medals.
