Cheap Accomodation Ni Phuket

Featured Replies

Hi everybody :)

I'm moving from Hua Hin to Phuket in a couple of weeks and I'm looking for cheap accomodation (under 9000THB) with internet included in the area of Patong-Karon-Kata.

Im looking to rent long-term. What is the best way to find something there ? I dont want to go through an agency and I would prefer to deal directly with the owners.

Thank for your help :)

Best regards !

Stay in a dirt cheap by-the-night room to start with. Get to know some locals not associated with the explicit scam-a-farang industry - that's the hard part in that neck of the woods.

Get them to recommend someone to help you with the Thai if you don't have much, and arrange transportation, and start to drive around looking for posted signs.

Also stop at various motodop stands, hairdresser shops, wherever there are clusters of street-food vendors and ask them.

If you're really keen, distribute Thai-language flyers spelling out what you're looking for with the phone number of your Thai-speaking friend, offering a 1-2000 reward for putting you in touch with the place you end up selecting.

May seem like a lot of trouble, but IMO worth it.

Plus a great context to help you get to know the locals, you never know you might meet some great people.

Thanks Johnny :) I'll give it a shot applying your method. So far I've found a cheap hotel in soi Baan Saan for 8000THB/month and a school to learn Thai. The guy owning the school is Thai and willing to help me with accomodation so I will see what he can do for me.

The idea of rewarding people to find a place for you is great ! Thanks ;)

Regarding the scam-the-farang industry, where on the island is the phenomenon less oppressing ? I know patong is the worse place to be. what about Kata or Karon or Kamala ? Which place is so most peaceful and not too far from Patong as my school is over there ?

Thnaks again Johnny :) I appreciate you took time to answer me !

Let's try this over in the Phuket forum.

Not that familiar with Phuket specifically, but if you're willing to put with the inconvenience I'd say get away from anywhere people speak English. Especially IMO wrt transactional companionship.

This will also help accelerate your Thai language acquisition.

At least you're honest that you don't know anything about Phuket.

Welcome to Koh Farang, 85% speak English, there are some cheap hongs Chalong way.

So if I understand you well to stay away from troubles, stay away from thai people speaking english ? Im kind of a loner anyway: i like the sea and nature, the rest I dont care thumbsup.gif

So what do you think about that hong deal of mine ? Good price ? I have to sign up for 1 year though.....

Tons of those on Soi Nanai, not sure about sea and nature but you probably will have some interesting neighbors who share eight in a room, most nights won't need to stay there. Could be some free play in it for you if you are a likeable guy and have just two eyes and no tail.

"So if I understand you well to stay away from troubles, stay away from thai people speaking english ?", no, I don't believe I said that, just poking fun at the poster who posted to stay away from people speaking English, well, it's Phuket and thats mission impossible.

Yes you were right about Nanai :) My neighbours are mainly bar girls but they are polite and dont look like they want to cause troubles. My room will do for now, waiting for the opportunity to find something better now smile.png

Thank for you help

There are shed loads of guest houses on Nanai. Lots of them are fairly new and struggling for business. Make sure you go all the way along and investigate the sub - sois. Have a look at Soi Playboy quite a few working foreigners in there so not so many transients.

If you can commit to a lengthy stay then you will get a better price, just make sure it's all inclusive of electric and water.

There are many studio apartments about 25m2 on the hills in that range, but I do not know about internet. Rent motorbike and ride around Patong
