Any Ideas About How To Find A Domestic Helper?

Featured Replies

My wife and i are interested in finding someone to come as a domestic helper. Not live-in, just for a certain period of time every day to help with child care and housework. She says she's not sure what the best way is to go about finding someone. Does anyone have recommendations? We're in BKK. Thanks.

Recommendation is usually the best, but there are also many adverts for this type of service within the Classified section of the forum.

Not easy. Thais don't want to do this job anymore. In our village all the signs that are for helpers are translated in Burmese.

I find it very easy to find domestic help. Many Thay's are available, I've had 4 of them in the last year...the difficult part is to find someone who would be honest, loyal and responsible. Also someone who eventually you could leave her alone in the house. My first one was ssssso good, she left the house clean as a whistle. The problem? she stole anything she laid her eys on, and she was good at that. telephone, canned food, table clothes. She wiped the house. I was hoping it will stop after asking where is that or this. It didn't. I let her go, and now nobody from the neighborhood wants to work for me. They say ok, next day they cxl. The stories are too long for this forum, but I would suggest: go by recommendations only.

Do yourself a favor and contract with a service.

Interesting info, thanks for the leads. I think we will start by asking around our acquaintances to see if anyone happens to know anyone they could introduce. If not maybe one of the services posted, we could check with them.

I would suggest asking the posters in the Thai news section who are telling everyone that the economy is crashing all around us. Surely they must know where there are many Thai people looking for jobs.biggrin.png I happen to think there is no unemployment in Thailand but I have been told over and over again that there is so maybe one of those people could advise where to find Thai people looking for a job.

If it was me I would try bringing someone over from the US or maybe an expat. Any way you look at it legal help is going to be hard to find till they let the other ASEAN countries start working in Thailand.

Join BAMBI, one of the many benefits is referrals for domestics from experience, or relatives of existing staff. Not the cheapest source but you may not want to do the usual trial-and-error routine.

I went through fourteen in three years before finding my current gold-standard one, she's been around for getting onto four years now and promises she wants to stay until the kids are grown bless her heart.

The above is a good post. Mine was a smart a** one and I apologize for it.

And by the way I've encouraged her staying with me long-term by setting aside an extra B2,000 per month to accumulate into a "bonus fund" that she receives just before the Song Kran holiday each year.

It's conditional on her giving me three-month's notice before leaving.

I also give random - both in amount and timing - cash tips, free days off, money to take her family out for moo katat, extra money just before her kids start their school term etc.

All in all, adds maybe 30% to the base "official" cost of her salary, basically added in these ways over the years rather than increasing her base for COL increase etc. And in my case well worth it.

And I take a very hard line in other ways so as not to be taken advantage of, which of course she does try on occasion. . .

you sound like a boss that sucks.

Well every Thai I speak to that isn't related to the maid reckons I'm spoiling her rotten, so I guess it depends on your POV.

The only opinion on the topic that really matters in the end is hers, and she swears she'll stick around for at least another fifteen years 8-)

you do what you got to do

We use Ayasan Serivce to find an Maid.

Their price on web-site was totally different. They asked us much cheaper than that price.

Now, we just pay 11,000 Baht / month for full time maid.

Also, the owner of this agency is Japanese. So, he introduce us a maid who speak Japanese.

They take care of us very good. They said if we are not comfortable with that maid, they will find a replacement for free.

I recomment Ayasan Service.
