Applying For First Vehicle Owners Rebate

The govt office staff in Phuket where you apply for the rebate will not witness the signature of the person applying for the rebate and expect you to bring along your own witness

I witnesses my wife's signature but not being a Thai citizen they could not tell me if it would be accepted or not

They took copies of her ID card and she looks the same as the Photo on it so there was no reason that they could not witness her signature

AFAIK they can not witness, it has to be an independent party, for all government related issues where a witness is required.

Australian rules on witnesses are the same as a lot of other countries

What does AFAIK mean???

Never mind, I don't want to get drawn into another pointless discussion here.

Nurses, Doctors, Politicians, Accountants, Police, Govt employees, Chemists etc

Much the same as British commonwealth countries and other developed countries

It sounds like not the Netherlands

Once again SL what does AFAIK mean or is it something you made up???

You will probably find that government officers processing your forms will not witness them even in Australia.

It is irrelevant what work someone does in regards to witnessing your signature/document. (... unless you're talking about a "Public Notary").

What "REBATE", as in the Thai's give money back rebate, "what on", what can a thai claim back for, is this on a car, motorbike, house, land, condoms etc, i've heard somewhere of it but what are the facts pls, what percentage is up for a rebate and on what items. i'd be interested to know, is there a time limit on claiming the rebate from the time of the purchase, who and exactly what qualifies, i think i heard as the OP pointed out it's only on new cars, is it a Thai "cash for clunkers" as in a incentive back to renew a car or is it only on thai first time buyers, guess where my old car ended wai.gif

It finishes next month as far as i know

Its for first vehicle buyers of Thai nationally only and i think only on new vehicles

Its limited to cars with engines of 1.5 litres or less, pickups are allowed larger engines

You have to wait 1 year for the rebate in our case 97K baht which will be paid into my wife's bank account

and belongs to her i am not entitled to a rebate

You have to keep the vehicle for 5 years if not you have to give the rebate back to the government

If you do not have a vehicle on order that will be delivered before the end of December you have missed out

I have heard people say the expiry date for the rebate may be extended because of the long delivery time for some vehicles

but i would not rely on that.
