Lost Us Passport, Replacing Non "o" Retirement And Multiple Entry Visas.

Featured Replies

Long Story short, lost my passport in a taxi. I already have an appointment with the US Embassy to start the replacement process and have a copy of the Police Report, Birth Cert., previous Passport and valid US drivers Lic.

How many days does it generally take the US Embassy to replace a lost passport?

Once I have the replacement passport, do I go to Chang Wattana Immigration or the old building on Suan Plu?

What is the process of replacing the Non. Im "O" stamp, the Retirement extension and Multiple Entry stamps?

I assume I'll need photos. Will I need a copy of the Income Verification Letter?

Somehow I don't think this is going to be fun.

Thanks to all who answer.

It is very easy - first step is fill out application form online/print if you can as will save a bit of time - link is on Embassy web site but you can do at Embassy if you like (and can write better than me). Should take about 10 days to get the new passport. Then you go to Chiang Watanna with Embassy letter of new passport. Do not believe photos are required (not for normal replacement passport but never lost one). Simple form asking for information to be entered into the new passport. Suspect you will need the police report there also without the old passport. Should not be any need for income letter unless you actually need to get a new extension of stay at this time.

Additional info at following URL for USA ID documentation requirements. I recently had my Australian passport stolen and Thai Immigration(Jomtien) requested I complete their lost/stolen passport form. They also advised me that if my "O" visa was applied for overseas I need to re-apply locally. This does not require medical and home country police report, only relevant proof of funds for a retirement extension.

Poster appears to have a one year extension of stay for retirement so that and the information from original visa is transferred into the new passport - there should be no need for a new visa.

Sorry to update my previous post. If the O visa was applied for in Thailand & after 90 days the retirement extension is provided, then yes the visa & extension is transferred to the replacement passport. In addition you have to complete Thai immigration lost/stolen passport form. However, if the O visa was granted overseas & the retirement extension was provisioned in Thailand, you have to apply for a new O visa in Thailand and of course a new retirement extension. At least this is the advice given to me by Jomtien immigration

I very much doubt that as you do not have to do any such thing for normal transfers into a new passport and they have copies of the original visa on file.

OK, I hope so, but I'll post an update on the outcome with Jomtien immigration - wouldn't be receiving my replacement passport until 20th November

Update? I am in the same situation, lost passport, non immigrant o visa that needs replacing. My new passport will be here any day now and I'll be trotting over to immigration with it - but any heads up on what to expect would be great. the original O visa was obtained in the U.S., not in Thailand.

thanks!

You will need a copy of your new passport, copy of police report and possibly embassy letter. At immigration you fill out a form and you will recieve your permission to stay in your new passport.

The visa itself is gone. If you had a multiple entry visa, you must get a new visa.

My original O visa was provisioned in Australia. I was required to apply for new O visa with retirement extension, cost 3,800 baht and both were provisioned within an hour at Jomtien immigration i.e. 90 days, plus 12 months extension. Needed to show documented compliance to financial requirements.

A visa for 90 day entry costs 2,000 baht and an extension of stay costs 1,900 baht so suspect you mean 3,900 baht? That 3,800 baht is the cost for a multi re-entry permit.

I would still question the need for a new visa entry or extension of stay as immigration should replace what you were here on due to a lost passport.

Yes, sorry 3,900 baht. As already stated if the O visa and extension were provisioned by Thai Immigration in Thailand, no problem just transfer to replacement passport after providing usual documentation; police report etc. However Jomtien Immigration insisted that if the original O visa was supplied overseas could not/would not transfer to lost/stolen replacement passport

But the visa should not have to be transferred - only a stamp indicating issue of that visa as they do every day of the year for normal new passport issues (almost all visas are issued outside Thailand). They have the visa copy on record in there files as you have extended so see no reason for any requirement for a new visa or extension of stay - but they appear to have required you get both. If you had not been on an immigration extension of stay they would have routinely provided the remainder of your current permitted to stay - they should also have done so on your extension of stay is my view.

Maybe so, but I was not going to argue the point with them as they were adamant and only had one day left on my emergency passport tourist entry stamp due to delays in receiving the full replacement passport.

You had an emergency passport? That might be the reason as entry on that would have ended your extension of stay.

My error I should have said reentered Thailand on emergency passport - apologies.
