6.6-magnitude quake hits Myanmar, felt in Bangkok

An earthquake with a magnitude of 6.6 on the Richter scale hit Myanmar 8.12 am Sunday, the United States Geological Survey reported on its website.

The USGS reported that the quake's epicenter was 56 kilometres northeast of Shwebo, Myanmar. It had a depth of some 10 kiilometres.

Several Twitter users in Bangkok, who live on highrise buildings, posted messages that they felt their buildings swaying at the time of quake.

dam_n! I came here hoping to get the bonus points for being the first to post about it.

Yeah, I'm on the 15th floor and was swaying back and forth a little. It feels very strange.

I like the little ones. They take away pressure from a pending big one.

Yep, in Mae Hia, thought I was having a turn!!!

Felt it quite strongly in Bangkok, twice quite long... I was watching the news on TV and thought something was wrong with me... Then saw the lamps swinging from the ceiling...

Felt it in Bangkok on 27th floor.

Felt it in Bangkok. Building swaying, some things were moved out of position in my apartment. Long, rolling motion.

Didn't feel anything. Of course I don't live in a tall building so I miss most of these.

I felt it on the 19th floor of my condo near Asoke in Bangkok...the building was swaying for about 30 seconds.

No wind and the trees were shaking in Mae Taeng.

I felt in Thonglor, I also thought I was being taken ill as I appeared to be swaying.

Hope everybody is ok up north and in Burma.

Very strong in Bangkok, 30 floors up.

always feels worse higher up.

USGS has it downgraded to a 6.6, but it was quite shallow, at only 6 miles.

@krisb Not likely to generate any tsunami warning, as it was 270 miles inland.

yes, felt it here in CM. I'm on the 8th floor.
