November 12, 201213 yr Has anyone used wood for a BBQ. I have seen charcoal but wondered about wood as sometimes wood can enhance the flavor Sharon
November 12, 201213 yr Its a charcoal bbq! You have to burn wood to get charcoal. Your question is like asking should I use water to make ice. Sorry Im not being mean but its just how a charcoal bbq works. You can put all the wood you like in it, it will turn into charcoal.
November 12, 201213 yr Used to all the time when I was growing up. One year we had lightning strike a 150-year-old apple tree in the yard, had lovely BBQ off that for three years running. Just have to start things going a couple of hours before it's time to cook, get a good bed of glowing coals. Regular steel's not good for that level of heat, better to build a brick one right off the ground. Heavy-duty grill on top too stiff metal brush to scour it before and after. Potatoes in foil tossed in there, boil up some fresh-picked corn, Yummy.
